ABOUT THE ROLE . . .
Coordinate, plan, and control Quality Control, Inspection, Process Control, and Pattern Shop departmental activities to ensure the production of high quality castings for the minerals industry that meet or exceed company standards and customer specifications. Develop and maintain proper metallurgical and managerial controls and monitor, analyze and review foundry operations. Act as ISO chief administrator for the facility.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Coordinate and manage quality control programs, including ISO, that assure product quality while minimizing scrapped materials. Prepare an annual budget and track actual results compared to the plan.
- Analyze the progress of castings through molding, core, pouring, finishing/heat treat and inspection operations to ensure that set processing standards are followed and all quality standards are met.
- Oversee job sampling analysis to determine changes required prior to manufacturing operations. Supervise recording of trial process changes to correct casting defects and recommend corrective action. Request and direct destructive and non-destructive testing and review test results and recommend changes to maintain quality standards and meet specifications.
- Coordinate pilot and prototype product development to meet new market demands. Approve the release of new jobs to production and approve routine production castings that meet quality standards and customer specifications.
- Participate with other managers and executives in long-range planning and the overall management of the company. Consult with other managers on quality standards, production process issues, maintenance and human resource issues.
- Select, develop, and motivate direct reports to effectively perform their respective job functions with a focus on workplace safety, product quality, productivity, cost efficiency, and department goals. Ensure proper departmental training so that assigned personnel perform to established standards and assure management succession.
- Ensure that all direct reports properly implement the terms of the labor agreement, to promote the efficient, economical and profitable operation of the company. Participate in labor relations activities, including (but not limited to) contract negotiations, grievance proceedings, and disciplinary matters.
- Organize and direct activities of hourly Pattern Repair Specialists.
- Maintain and adhere to ISO standards, including but not limited to the Quality and Environmental Policy Statements as well as the Quality and Environmental Procedures Manual.
Position Requirements:
- A minimum of 10 years experience in foundry practices or a related industry.
- A degree in Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Thorough understanding of non-destructive testing methods and foundry metallurgy.
- Proven organizational and planning ability.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
