Description
Under the supervision of the Youth and Family Program Director, The Child Watch Attendant will provide care to children, ages 3 months to 9 years, who are members of the YMCA. Shifts are no longer than 5 hours long. During this time, Child Watch Attendants will watch children while parents engage in Healthy Living activities at the YMCA. They will play with and facilitate activities for children, and supervise them while they play.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides careful, attentive supervision, and is alert at all times
- Manages the program resources responsibly
- Uses a diverse selection of materials, equipment and experiences for all participants. These materials should be multicultural, nonsexist, and anti-bias
- Keeps safety of children as first priority. Emphasizes personal safety and emotional well- being with the children and parents.
- Never leave the children unattended.
- Provide a fun, safe, and stimulating atmosphere for the children.
- Develop and foster a “family club” atmosphere by participating with members in an enthusiastic, courteous, and friendly manner.
- By personal example, helps to interpret the quality of the YMCA values to children, staff, and parents. Must be a positive role model.
- Learn all emergency procedures and familiarize yourself with the first aid equipment.
- Keep room clean of food and small objects which may be deemed a choking hazard.
- Inspect room each morning for possible hazards, clean and vacuum room prior to closing each day.
- Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.
- Helps to provide a program that exhibits high standards in cleanliness and presentation
- Facilitates a program environment that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes children
Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Must possess and demonstrate the ability to engage in all activities associated with the daily care, activities, and routines of program’s children, including but not limited to: interacting with children at floor level, physical education activities such as running, jumping, etc., lifting children and equipment, and participating in outdoor activities, diapering and toileting as needed
- Previous experience working with children in a babysitting, child care or school setting.
- Must possess oral, auditory and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults
- Must be capable of directing the daily administrative, program-related, and supervisory responsibilities of a Child Watch program
- Current CPR/FA/AED certifications preferred
- Ability to connect with people of diverse backgrounds
Salary : $15
