Job Title: Donated Dental Services Coordinator
Reports to: Manager of Access and Prevention Director of Government and Insurance Affairs Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly
General Purpose:
The Donated Dental Services Coordinator provides case management services for the Michigan Donated Dental Services (DDS) Program and its applicants who are elderly, have permanent disability, or are medically at-risk and cannot afford or access comprehensive dental treatment for severe dental problems.
Essential Functions:*
Processes applications and determines patient eligibility:
- Receives applications, conducts telephone intake interviews, and appropriate follow-up with applicants.
- Determines eligibility based on program qualifications.
Coordinates patient treatment:
- Forwards information about each accepted patient to volunteer dentist to consider for treatment including specialist referrals as appropriate.
- Monitors progress during treatment; intervenes as necessary to resolve issues. Performs case management functions and assures that the process goes well for both the patients and the dentists.
Recruits volunteer dentists:
- Assists manager of access and prevention with recruitment and retention of volunteer dentists.
Coordinates and negotiates with volunteer laboratories:
- Assists manager of access and prevention with recruitment of volunteer laboratories.
- Makes arrangements with dental labs, negotiates within the parameters of the lab budget and authorizes lab fee reimbursements.
Establishes and maintains relationships with referral agencies:
- Maintains periodic contact with referring agencies and reaches out to new agencies to stimulate appropriate referrals as needed.
Maintains program records:
- Maintains computerized files of patients, dentists, labs, and related data and case notes as each case progresses.
- Assists manager of access and prevention with compiling report data.
Secondary Essential Functions:*
- Attends events such as the MDA Annual meeting, component dental society meetings and other events to support the program as assigned.

- The job requires knowledge normally acquired through a bachelor’s degree in social work or other human services field, or equivalent work experience.

Specific Educational/Experiential Development:

This position is full time, hourly, non-exempt, and funded in part or in full through an annual grant by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
This position may require overtime, for example during annual session. Overtime is at the direction of the immediate supervisor and human resources. Approval for overtime is granted by the executive director and/or human resources.
