What are the responsibilities and job description for the Warehouse Specialist position at Microban International?

The Warehouse Specialist performs activities such as verification and receiving of incoming shipments, handling and disposition of materials, preparing customer orders and samples for shipping, keeping warehouse inventory current and organized, and maintaining clean warehouse and material handling equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities and work assignments required to meet shipping and receiving schedules; coordinates with Customer Service to determine weekly shipping schedule.
  • Performs clerical and physical tasks for receipt of goods; receives materials in, verifies or prepares records such as receiving reports and packing slips, compares identifying information, and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming shipments to verify correctness of shipments against bills of lading or other records. Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, checks for and records shortages, records amounts of materials or items received or distributed, rejects damaged goods, and routes merchandise to proper departments. Maintains receiving log; uses computer to enter and build materials received into inventory module of the Enterprise Resource and Planning (ERP) system.
  • Reads and takes action for customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions, or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved, gathered, or distributed, type and quantity of product to be shipped and packing requirements, such as containers or wrapping material to be used, and confer with other departments to coordinate flow of raw materials or finished products; reports on warehousing space available to develop schedule for material handling activities.
  • Assembles customer orders from stock; selects and stages items, parts, or products to be shipped to customers, and checks customer orders for accuracy, add-ons, or special items. Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects pre-assembled containers. Opens drums, gaylord boxes, and other containers and inspects containers to verify conformance to specifications; packs a variety of parts, products, or materials in standard boxes, crates, or other containers for shipment or storage; arranges articles in container to prevent breakage or damage, seals and marks package. May attach identifying tags or labels to materials or mark information on drums, gaylord boxes, or other containers as orders are filled. May attach and/or insert packing slips, bills of lading, material safety data sheets, and/or certificates of analysis; may bind containers with shipping tape and shrink-wrap. Places orders on pallets or shelves and/or conveys orders to shipping department, compiles records of unfilled orders.
  • Performs daily forklift inspections; operates electric powered industrial truck equipped with lifting devices such as forklift and elevating platform or hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to quarantine, storage, or other designated areas. Loads and unloads materials onto or from vehicles, pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by use of hand-truck or dolly. Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, or product code.
  • Manages sample requests through Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system (e.g. Salesforce) and oversees that samples are shipped timely; follows up with dept. involved.
  • Cleans work area and helps maintain an organized and clean warehouse as per daily, weekly and monthly housekeeping and safety inspections. Housekeeping duties include weekly collection of recycling materials from the office areas.
  • Requisitions and maintains inventory of containers, shipping materials, and supplies.
  • Inspects warehouse facilities and equipment (eye wash/safety shower weekly) and recommends changes in allocation of space and crating procedures; suggests changes in working conditions to increase efficiency of warehouse, department, or staff.
  • Takes periodic inventories, as determined by company policy, to verify inventory records and correct discrepancies.
  • Assists with shipping duties and any other duties as assigned by Manager as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three to five years related work experience and/or training in distribution/logistics, shipping/receiving, manufacturing, or another warehouse environment. Current forklift certification or the ability to become certified is required. Lean manufacturing and 5S work experience is preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of personal computer and various software applications including Microsoft Word and Outlook, UPS and FedEx Software and web-based programs, Zebra Bar-One label program, and Enterprise Resource Planning System (ERP) system. On-the-job training will be provided for the UPS/FedEx, Zebra Bar-One, ERP and Salesforce programs.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Current forklift certification or the ability to become certified is required. Respirator certification is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch, climb or balance, and smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Job duties that require the physical demands listed above include preparing shipments for customer orders and samples, loading and unloading trucks, receiving incoming material, organizing warehouse on a daily basis, and collecting recyclables on a weekly basis.

Job duties affected by the environmental conditions selected above include operating a forklift, running of air compressor in the warehouse, printers, computers, and truck traffic.
