The Middle Georgia Community Food Bank (MGCFB) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that distributes food to over 200 partner agencies to feed children, the working poor, and seniors throughout 24 counties in Middle Georgia. Founded in 1981, the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank, distributed 7.9 million meals in 2017 to our partner agencies and programs. MGCFB is a member of Feeding America, the nations largest domestic hunger-relief charity, which includes over 190 Food Banks nationwide. MGCFB is a member of the Georgia Food Bank Association which provides a unified voice among food banks ...in support of our common mission in fighting hunger in Georgia. The Backpack Program Currently serves over 3,400 children in 53 K-12 schools in 11 counties, including 29 in Bibb County, to provide food insecure students with supplemental food for the weekend. The program is provided in partnership with 18 agencies whose volunteers pack boxes and transport food to the schools. The Food Bank distributed 346,040 pounds or 415,248 meals. OPCAR Operation Partnership/Children at Risk or OPCAR is a service targeted toward youth programs. OPCAR provides snacks and drinks to partnership organizations who run youth develop programs. Programs that benefit from OPCAR include: DARE, Special Olympics, WAVE (Weapons & Violence Education), and other programs and camps for local youth. In 2017, 81,059 pounds of food or 97,271 meals were distributed through OPCAR.
