PSSP = Professional Services Support Personnel 10:00 a.m. - 6:30p.m.

The purpose of the Building Security role at MHS is to provide additional safety and security measures for students, staff and families, using multiple strategies to achieve a safe community. Building Security staff leverage their relationships with students, teachers, administration, community members, and families to promote an inviting school climate, working to ensure that the building is safe and secure for everyone at all times.

Primary Functions:

  • Building Security: Student Greeter Station
  • Serve as main dispatch for radio calls
  • Perform regular safety checks of the school building and high traffic student areas
  • Implementing safety protocols during times of emergency
  • Checks ID and other at the student entrance
  • Maintain Cell Phone vault
  • Log issues in Educlimber
  • Log each radio call and holds, alarms, health alerts,
  • Proactively de-escalate situations and conflicts through relationship building, mediation, and conflict resolution with all students and staff.
  • Uses technology to promote safety and security: Security camera system, two-way radios, school management software, email, phone, general office equipment, and software
  • Building Security: Sweeper
  • Respond from dispatch: directions mainly for building issues and at times student issues
  • Sweeps the building during rounds
  • Lunch duty
  • Assist at entrances during high traffic times
  • Bathroom Checks
  • Move students into designated areas
  • Communicate with custodians

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A mindset of a life-long learner who is accepting of feedback with a positive regard for each other and students
  • Attending and supporting building and district professional development
  • Experience in the use of computers, and computer software (i.e. Word, Excel, Google suite)
  • Ability to develop positive and constructive relationships with students, staff, and visitors
  • Ability to establish and maintain an environment conducive to learning
  • Ability to interact in a professional, positive, supportive, and helpful manner with peers, students, staff, and the public on routine, sensitive, and confidential matters
  • Ability to take initiative in completing assignments and tasks
  • Ability to function effectively and cooperatively in a team environment– leaning into strengths to build a strong system
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills especially during emergency situations
  • Ability to focus on resolving conflicts between others
  • Physically fit for walking, running, and lifting

Preferred:

  • An understanding of working in urban, diverse, and large school environments.
  • Experience and/or training in a related field (i.e., education, criminal justice, human services, mentoring)
  • A strong desire to work with students and grow professionally within the school district
  • Accepts, seeks, and takes initiative for new assignments and projects; Initiates and takes action for improvements
  • Ability to speak Spanish (Bilingual)
  • Experience working with school management software such as Infinite Campus and other data management systems
  • Knowledge of safety monitoring equipment such as security cameras and two way radios
  • A strong interest in teaching, coaching, or advising student clubs/activities

  • First Aid and CPR/AED Certification

  • Trauma-Informed Practices
  • Building Safety Protocols
  • Understanding, accessing, and following Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Successful completion of additional in-service program related to the position

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $25.25 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
