What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Engineer position at Midwest Filtration LLC?
We are seeking a highly skilled Production Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing production processes to ensure successful launch of new SKUs, as well as efficient and safe operations. Midwest Filtration is a custom converter of nonwoven material, specializing in web handling processes, including slitting, rewinding, die cutting, sewing, heat-sealing, laminating (ultrasonic), printing, assembling, kitting, etc. This role involves conducting trials, establishing SOPs for new parts and identifying improvements opportunity of our process or equipment to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and promote sustainability. The Production Engineer will also conduct risk assessments, troubleshoot issues, develop and provide detailed process documentation for operators to follow.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and Implementation:
- Develop, implement and optimize production processes from inception to start-up and production
- Develop production process for new web handling projects, including ultrasonic lamination
- Conduct prototyping trials and evaluate effectiveness of process to meet customer requirements
- Implement processes to ensure quality of products and processes
- Working with Sales to collaborate with customers to arrive at optimal product specifications
- Develop and implement SOPs for new products and validation of manufacturing processes.
Testing and Monitoring:
- Conduct tests and monitor equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation.
- Identify and challenge key process settings against customer product requirements
Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement continuous improvement ideas to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance sustainability.
Risk Assessment:
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Identify and challenge key process settings against customer product requirements
Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose and resolve issues with manufacturing processes and equipment.
Documentation:
- Provide detailed process documentation and operating instructions
- Develop documented trouble shooting guidelines
- Prepare complete and accurate records of assigned project activities
Quoting:
- Assist quoting by provide cost estimates of new parts through time studies and process reviews
ISO
- Actively participates in the Design Process which has been identified as a Key Process
- Assist in Development of any ISO related policies/procedures for your function
- Adhere to Company ISO policies/procedures

Qualifications/Competency:
Education:
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, or related field.
Experience:
- 5 years of experience in production engineering in a manufacturing environment or a related field.
- 2 years of leading prototype to production in the field of web handling, experience with nonwovens materials is preferred.
Skills:
- Advanced in Microsoft Project, Excel, Power BI, Microsoft office suite, process simulation software, CAD or AutoCAD, and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read and analyze hydraulic, electric, and pneumatic blueprints
- Advanced math skills required.
- Individuals must possess strong interpersonal skills to communicate with coworkers, project teams, line workers and outside vendors.
- Individuals must have the ability to make independent decisions that may be of a complex nature.
