What are the responsibilities and job description for the Industrial Weldor position at Midwest Press and Automation?

Midwest Press & Automation LLC is a fast-paced, rapidly growing, company servicing the metal forming industry. We are a full-service repair shop who works primarily with metal forming presses and related equipment.

 

MPA is looking for a candidate able to perform weld repairs on mechanical components as well as perform light to heavy fabrication work. Responsibilities are, but not limited to:

  • Pad weld worn components such as shafts and machine ways without defect.
  • Cut out cracks in machine casting and fabrications using oxyacetylene torches and carbon arc.
  • Grind and chip to prepare components for welding.
  • Build gas fired furnaces for thermal stress relief, monitor temperatures.
  • Use best practices to minimize stress and distortion in welded components.
  • Use GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, & GTAW all position welding processes on mild and alloy steels.
  • Ability to braze weld is preferred but not required.
  • Able to follow basic blueprints and written instructions as it pertains to fabrication/repair.
  • Work at heights, confined spaces while exercising safe work practices.
  • Setup and fixture fabrications
  • Knowledge and practice of pre & post (stress relieving) heating procedures
  • Ability to rig using an overhead crane and fork trucks.
  • Work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Work out of town and occasionally overnight as needed (overnight shift premium $6/hr.) with per diem and company vehicle.

 

Education, qualifications, and certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, technical training and certifications a plus.
  • Welding test to assess basic welding skills at an interview.
  • A candidate may not possess all the requirements above, a certain degree of training is available for the right individual.

 

Experience

  • Formal welding training
  • Machine or press repair experience is a plus.
  • Compensation is based on ability and experience.
