What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Programmer- Youth Violence Prevention Program: position at Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board?
Program Overview:
Chat It Ups- is a unique initiative designed to foster positive interactions and engagement between our staff and the youth in our community. The program revolves around three core elements: conversation, support, and community building. Staff will be assigned a specific curriculum to facilitate conversations with the youth at our local parks. These conversations will happen three- four times a week, creating regular opportunities for our staff to connect with the youth. There will be a theme each month centered around community violence prevention and the curriculum for those four weeks will match the theme.
Compensation: $18.95 -$20.00 an hour depending on experience
This part time position is eligible for sick and safe leave in accordance with the Minneapolis Sick and Safe Time Ordinance. This position is not eligible for other benefits.
Hours:
10 hours a week in the office which includes planning and coordinating program at multiply sites.
Duties:
- Plan and lead structured, prevention programs or activities for youth in the city of Minneapolis ages 7-17 years old.
- Help create a positive, safe, and nurturing environment for youth in Minneapolis Park and Recreation centers.
- Ensure the environment and recreation-based curriculum provides learning experiences to meet each customer needs.
- Must be available 2-3 evenings for programming between 5pm-8:30p.
- Day hours are needed for planning and to attend meetings.
Qualifications:
- Must pass a background check
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and group settings
- Motivate and mentor youth showing flexibility, creativity, and communication skills.
- Work effectively with diverse cultural and socioeconomic demographics.
- Work in a team environment; demonstrate flexibility and patience in adapting to changing situations.
- Maintain composure and professionalism in sometimes chaotic or stressful situations.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and complete physical tasks (lift, carry, pull, etc.)
- Work in both indoor and outdoor environment.
