The Museum of Craft and Design (MCD) is the only museum in San Francisco devoted to craft and design. Founded in 2004, MCD showcases designers, makers, and artists through a distinctive series of craft and design-focused exhibitions and award-winning public programs. MCD offers low and no-cost admission and program opportunities throughout the Bay Area, in support of its vision of making creativity accessible to everyone.
Position Summary:
MCD seeks an enthusiastic fundraising administrator to join its Development team. The Development Coordinator will have the opportunity to creatively engage museum members and support the organization’s overall fundraising efforts. Under the supervision of the Development Director, this integral role will track gift, grant, and event information; detail all donor activities in the organization’s CRM database, Altru; help develop special events, and organize strategies to expand MCD’s membership community.
Essential Duties:
- Manage all development aspects of MCD’s CRM database Altru, including accurate gift processing, timely gift entry and acknowledgment letters, and ensure integrity of data
- Coordinate member acquisition and renewal processes through direct mail and e-appeals, in-person engagement, phone outreach, and follow-up
- Plan and execute in-person membership and fundraising events (1-2 per month) at MCD, and in the community, in collaboration with MCD’s Development Director
Primary Responsibilities:
Development Program
- Provide organized and effective coordination and support of development efforts including but not limited to Altru database maintenance and coordination, MCD’s membership program, grant administration, special events
- Monitor progress toward revenue goals and assist in preparation of fundraising reports, maintaining a high level of confidentiality and accuracy
- In concert with the Development Director, participate in building in and successfully executing MCD’s annual fundraising plan
- Assist and support the Development Director, Executive Director, and members of the board with their donor portfolios
- In support of the Development Director, coordinate donor pipeline to engage prospects and supporters and further leverage their generosity
- Research, develop, and implement best practices for new, renewed, and upgraded donor and member gifts
- In collaboration with the Development Director, serve as a staff liaison at MCD events, building positive relationships with community stakeholders

Membership Program
- Serve as primary point person for MCD’s 500 person membership program ($45-$499), developing strategies to increase memberships, and retain, steward, and upgrade members
- Understand member and visitor needs and their customer journey through regular surveys and other feedback methods
- Plan and implement member events and ensure timely fulfillment of member benefits
- Coordinate member acquisition and renewal processes through direct mail and e-appeals, in-person engagement, phone outreach, and follow-up
- Answer inquiries from current and prospective members via email, in-person, and by phone
- Work with MCD’s Store team to increase on-site membership sales
Database Coordination
- Develop fluency in and manage fundraising and front of house/ticketing and event data in MCD’s CRM database system Altru, collaborating interdepartmentally as required
- Oversee accurate gift processing, including timely gift entry and acknowledgements, and integrity of data; ensure consistent best practices and policies associated with donor gift management
Grant Administration
- Organize and maintain effective paper and electronic record management for grants
- Work closely with MCD’s Marketing and Communications team to ensure proper recognition of grant awards
- Help track grant deadlines and expenditures related to grant-supported activities
Events
- In collaboration with the Development Director, plan and execute member and fundraising events (1-2/month), and MCD’s annual donor travel program
- As needed, in collaboration with MCD’s Administrative Assistant, coordinate with event vendors and community partners; including securing event permits and contracts
- Build relationships with community partners and solicit in-kind donations, cash donations, and sponsorships
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 1-2 years experience working with membership programs, database systems and/or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience; familiarity with and enthusiasm for non-profit arts organizations
- Demonstrated experience using software applications including database management; willingness and ability to learn new applications
- Experience with Altru, Blackbaud, or comparable database software and advanced use of spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets) strongly preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; possess strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, and attention to detail; able to balance priorities and meet deadlines
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, sound judgment, positive attitude, and ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

Physical Requirements:
- Frequently required to talk and hear; stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms
- Occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch
- Must be able to do extended periods of work at a computer
- Must be able to assist with events, which includes lifting up to 25 lbs
