Position Summary
Provides instruction and assistance to patrons engaged in computer learning and instructional activities in the Community Center. The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Responsibilities
Undertakes and performs the following and all other work-related duties as assigned (essential job functions in bold type):
- Assists with educational, informational training, social and recreation activities for housing development children and youth in the Community Center.
- Assesses each child’s development and recognizes problems of a culture and/or development nature which may be exhibited by certain children; when necessary, devises positive approaches to overcome problems.
- Ensures that an appropriate and equal level of attention and care is given to each child in a manner that is consistent with its needs, dependent upon age and stage of development.
- Ensures all necessary worksheets are copied for class instructions.
- Assists youth in completing homework assignments.
- Works in small groups or one-one one with youth to provide specialized assistance.
- Ensures that all activities are conducted in an equitable manner providing equal opportunity and access to equipment to all children in the group.
- Encourages children’s participation by providing interactive activities.
- Informs staff and parents of curriculum by preparing and submitting lesson plans; posting schedules and curriculum outlines.
- Prepares bulletin boards monthly based on the theme.
- Conforms to rules and regulations of the program.
- Maintains accurate records on youth enrolled in the program, to include attendance, conduct/indent, accident and participation forms.
- Assists in program surveys.
- Assists in preparing for and presenting youth programs.
- Prepares and serves snacks, in a sanitary condition, to make sure each child have a healthy snack.
- Performs clerical assignments as assigned.
- Stock and maintain inventory of supplies for supply cabinet, and office snacks.
- Assists children with homework and assists the homework helpers as required.
- Encourages consistency of service by maintaining communications with parents and staff.
- Protects families by keeping personal information confidential.
- Provides safe environment by maintaining orderly, clean and appealing facilities; removing known safety hazards.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
- Accountable for consistent adherence to strong Agency standards regarding the ethical, responsible, and appropriate use, care, and safeguarding of Agency materials, supplies, resources, and other assets.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or possession of a certificate of equivalence of High School Achievement (GED) and One (1) to two (2) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of classroom management and management of computer labs.
- Thorough knowledge of general office practices and procedures, including business English and arithmetic.
- Good knowledge of methods and procedures used in stock room and inventory control.
- Good knowledge of parts, supplies, and materials relative to Agency needs.
- Basic skills in operating computer equipment, applicable Agency software, and general office machines.
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, orally and in writing.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instruction and correspondence.
- Ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with the public and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, vendors, and residents.
- Ability to deal effectively with sensitive and confidential information.
Supervision Controls
Generally, assignments and instructions from the Director of Family Services. The employee initiates and performs routine activities without supervisory direction. Problems or situations that arise and are not covered by instructions are either dealt with independently, or in consultation with the supervisor. The employee's work is spot-checked periodically for adherence to policies and ensures productivity. The employee has no supervisory duties.
Guidelines
The employee follows regulations and guidelines issued by HUD programs, community services, resident services, and resident initiatives and applicable Agency policies and procedures. When new guidelines are required, the employee develops them in consultation with the Director of Family Services.
Complexity
Most of the work performed by the employee is relatively routine. The employee identifies work that needs to be done, prioritizes, coordinates efforts and performs the tasks.
Scope and Effect
The employee's work affects other employees, children and their families throughout housing developments and the community. Performing work tasks effectively, efficiently and with compassion enhances relationships between resident families, the community and the Agency. Ensures the programs are operated efficiently and effectively allowing residents to participate in a variety of services that will assist them in their efforts to be self-sufficient.
Personal Contacts
The employee's contacts include: Agency personnel, residents, resident councils, businesses, schools, corporations, city and community service organizations and agencies. The purpose of such contacts is to bring youth services to the Agency and Community to foster resident pride, participation and provide various kinds of support and assistance for individual families.
Physical Requirements
- The employee's work is performed both indoors and outdoors, and may involve visits to participants’ homes and outside agencies. The employee may drive vans and/or busses, and may be required to push, pull and/or lift objects weighing up to and more than 25 pounds.
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, residents, service agencies, and work-related contacts in an environment that will sometimes include increased levels of work-related stress.
- Must be able to sit or stand for up to eight (8) hours at a time while performing work duties.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, push, and pull in the performance of work-related duties (e.g. moving or carrying objects or materials).
- Must be able to use fingers bilaterally and unilaterally to operate office equipment including computers, copiers, printers, facsimile machines, telephone, etc.
- Must have vision and hearing corrected to be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions in an environment that will sometimes include increased levels of work-related stress.
- Must maintain a professional appearance and portray a positive image for the Agency.
- Must be able to maintain punctuality and attendance as scheduled.

Work Environment
The employee's work is primarily in-office, but also involves visits to housing developments, residents’ homes, schools, offices of other agencies, community centers and meeting halls. The employee may be exposed to weather extremes and to the usual hazards associated with housing developments.
Other Requirements
- Must possess a State of Oklahoma driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
- May be required to work an unusual work schedule.
- Must work with the highest degree of confidentiality.
- Must be available for occasional overnight travel for training.
- Must pass employment drug screening & criminal background check.
