Napa Valley College is seeking an individual with demonstrated instructional skills to provide high quality programs and services to our district, our community, and our students.

This full-time, tenure-track faculty position works a 175-day faculty work year, in accordance with the district/faculty agreement, beginning August 2025 (fall semester).  Appointments are contingent upon Board approval.  Initial salary placement is $65,071 - $84,644 annually, with future steps to $119,657.  Placement on the salary range is commensurate with education and experience.  The college offers a fringe benefit package, including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, employee assistance program, and CalSTRS membership.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Dean of Science, Mathematics & Engineering:

• Teach all levels of computer science courses;

• Participate in the development and revision of curriculum, program evaluation, and the assessment of student learning outcomes;

• Assist the dean in program development and other division tasks;

• Participate in professional development activities;

• Maintain current knowledge in the subject-matter area and effective teaching/learning strategies;

• Implementing teaching techniques to effectively address the learning needs of students from a variety of cultural, educational and socioeconomic backgrounds

• Work cooperatively with other department members, the department coordinator, the dean, and the vice president to develop and maintain quality instruction; and

• Perform related duties in the Science and Engineering division, as assigned.

 

Assignment may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, off-campus classes, and online or other technology-supported instruction.  All contract and regular faculty are required to adhere to contractual obligations, meet assigned classes, maintain regular office hours, assist and advise students, participate in division activities and appropriate college committees, including regular faculty meetings of the department, division and College. Napa Valley College believes in ongoing professional development that assists faculty in improving their teaching skills, providing support to students, and encouraging responsibility within the college community.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications  

 

Education:

Master’s in computer science or computer engineering 

 

OR 

Bachelor’s in either of the above 

 

AND 

Master’s in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting or engineering 

 

OR 

Bachelor’s in engineering 

 

AND 

Master’s in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration 

 

OR 

Bachelor’s in mathematics 

 

AND 

Master’s in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration 

 

OR 

Bachelor’s degree in any of the above 

 

AND 

A master’s degree in information science, computer information systems, or information systems 

 

OR 

the equivalent 

 

(NOTE: Courses in the use of computer programs for application to a particular discipline may be classified for minimum qualifications purposes, under the discipline of the application.)

 

All degrees must be from an accredited institution.

 

Experience:

• Demonstrated college-level teaching experience in computer science

• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and race/ethnic background of community college students

 

Title 8, USC, Section 1324-A requires verification of eligibility for employment in the United States.   

 

Desirable Professional Competencies  

Two years of full-time or three years of part-time college teaching experience in the computer sciences, preferably at the community college

• One year teaching in an in-person classroom

• Demonstrated experience in: 

understanding algorithms, data structures, and common computer languages (e.g. Python, Java, JavaScript, C )

developing and revising curriculum

using current technology in the classroom

assessing student learning outcomes

working with programs or engaging in community outreach that supports the success and retention and/or enrichment of students in computer science or other closely related disciplines.

 

Ability to:

• work collaboratively with others

communicate effectively both orally and in writing

• Incorporate current trends and emerging technologies into the computer science curriculum.
