Near North Health, a longstanding pillar of Chicago's healthcare landscape, is seeking a visionary and compassionate Nurse Manager to join our dedicated team. As Nurse Manager you will play a pivotal role in our mission to serve primarily low-income uninsured or underinsured residents of Chicago's medically underserved communities while working with the Practice Manager & Regional Medical Director to design and implement system improvements specific to the delivery of nursing services throughout NNH medical clinics supporting a Medical Home and Team Based Care Model of patient care and improving/sustaining clinic productivity and services, achieving targets and improving patient outcomes. Your leadership and managerial skills, will further solidify our position as one of the largest providers of community-based primary care in the city.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Excellence:
- Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as organizational policies and procedures.
2. People and Culture:
- Demonstrates Near North Health’s Code of Ethics commitments, driving a culture that aligns with the organization’s mission, vision and values.
- Directs, coordinates, and evaluates nursing staff and nursing services at the health center, including conducting performance evaluations and provides ongoing feedback and coaching.
- Responsible for the onboarding, training and development of nursing staff. Provides and/or coordinates in-service training on CPR, EMR usage and other topics, as appropriate.
- Supervises and directs the work of nursing department staff, including nurses, medical assistants, referral coordinators, patient care coordinators, students, and others.
3. Quality and Patient Care:
- Develops, implements, and evaluates nursing care criteria for clinical practice.
- Ensures nursing staff keep all exam and procedure rooms appropriately stocked and emergency carts are maintained and available at each location. Determines appropriate levels of medical supply inventory.
- In collaboration with Patient Access Manager and Risk Manager, responsible for investigating and resolving patient incidents and complaints as they pertain to nursing services.
- Oversees immunization program, including vaccine ordering process, receipt, maintenance/storage, compliance with state and other grants and requirements.
- Provides direct care to patients within the approved scope of nursing licensure.
- Work collaboratively with Director of Risk Management to develop and implement risk management strategies to minimize liability and ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
4. Financial Sustainability and Stewardship:
- Collaborates with leadership in development of long-range plans and budgets specific to the nursing department. Monitors and manages the nursing department budget.
- Clinic supply management with a lens toward financial stewardship.
5. Innovation and Integration
- Implement new programs, services, and technologies to improve clinic performance and patient outcomes.
6. Community Engagement
- Collaborate with other departments and external partners to support organizational initiatives.
7. Performance Criteria
- Drives outcomes through the monitoring of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that measure how effectively Near North Health is meeting its mission. The KPIs will fall under the strategic pillars: operational excellence, people and culture, quality and patient care, financial sustainability and stewardship, innovation and integration and community engagement.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current IL R.N. license.
- Minimum of five years' experience in a nursing director/manager position.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations including OSHA, Joint Commission, and PCMH requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, staff, providers, and external partners.
- Proven ability to lead clinical staff with excellence and develop strong standards of patient care and quality outcomes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Problems are solved with creativity and ingenuity.
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relations and to work in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years' experience directing/managing nursing operations.
- Bachelors or Master's degree in Nursing.
- Experience working with a wide variety of patient populations, including patients living in poverty and individuals of minority groups.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
Working Conditions:
- Work is typically performed in a clinical setting with regular interaction with patients, staff, and providers.
- Occasional travel between clinic sites may be required.
Other Requirements: Saturday hours, evening hours and/or may be required to work at a different site.
