Job Description
The Associate Pastor is one who is gifted and is called to church ministry, loves people, and has a passion for administration, evangelism, outreach, and missions both personally and at the ministry level within a multi-generational congregation setting. This Pastor will have a passion for the Word of God and desire to proclaim the Word of God with conviction and confidence always moving the congregation towards taking consistent spiritual steps. This person will be missions-minded and will lead the congregation to serve both locally and globally. This Pastor will seek to live out the Great Commission, share the Gospel boldly from the pulpit, be active in the community, and build one-on-one relationships.
Associate Pastor Job Duties:
Support the Senior Pastor in the overall vision casting and leadership of the church’s teaching.
Work with the Senior Pastor to ensure weekend services are planned and executed
Preach as scheduled (up to weekly) and be prepared to be the emergency backup speaker in case of last-minute need. Always have an “emergency sermon” ready if needed.
Establish and maintain a strong administrative presence in the Church, committees and other functions as necessary.
Oversee Sunday morning volunteer groups such as welcome center, coffee, communion, and special event tables
Support volunteers for adult small groups and adult ministries within the church
When possible, be available in the lobby and entry areas to greet attendees and be available for questions or prayer when necessary.
Demonstrate an intense interest in the congregational health of church members.
Contribute to the spiritual growth and progress of all members
Visit members in the hospital, care facilities, and homes as necessary or directed.
Conduct funerals, celebrations of life and weddings as needed.
Provide pastoral care to children, youth, and families; provide confidential pastoral counseling in emergencies and short-term basis
Assist in creating a community environment for the congregation to fulfill the “one-another” commands.
As necessary, provide guidance and oversight for adult and small group teachers and leaders; assist small group teachers and leaders with curriculum/study selection.
Teach Small Group or Sunday School classes as needed or desired.
Provides coaching, evaluation, mentoring, and bible teaching to the staff as needed to ensure the needs of the Church is met.
Other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor or the Human Resources Committee.
Qualifications
Possesses the personality, temperament and interpersonal skills to relate and serve effectively within a multi-generational congregation setting
Must exhibit evidence of Christian character and servant leadership in the work environment as well as in home/family setting at all times.
Must be doctrinally aligned with New Life’s Faith and Practices statement, doctrinal positions, mission, and core values
Must possess strong work ethic and personal integrity
Education & Skills
Engaging and experienced teacher/presenter who can bring practical life application to the scriptures
Demonstrate knowledge and ability to guide a seeker to become a baptized disciple of Jesus
Knowledge and ability to use the Bible to guide a new disciple to ongoing spiritual maturity
Bachelor’s degree preferably from an accredited Christian college or university with strong emphasis on religious studies and courses. A master’s degree in a related religious field from an accredited college or university is strongly preferred. Studies should emphasize Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Discipleship, Education, New Church development or Church Leadership
A minimum of two years of pastoral experience as an Associate or Youth Pastor is strongly preferred.
Hours & Benefits
The Associate Pastor will be classified as a part-time, exempt employee working flexible hours in order to meet the needs of the Church. It is expected that this position may be required to work up to 20 hours a week or more.
This position has the potential to grow to be a full-time position with benefits.
No benefits will be provided to this position at this time.
