JOB SUMMARY: Guided by the CASA Director and Deputy Director, the Lead Organizer is responsible for building out the work of CASA to fight displacement and build tenant power in the Southwest Bronx. This includes supervise, support and train staff, running a political education program for leaders and members, supporting one of CASA’s campaigns and supporting the overall strategy for building organizing work.
Job Duties include but not limited to:
Staff Development:
- Provides direct supervision to 3 tenant organizers through weekly supervision meetings, review of work plans, and providing regular and consistent feedback.
- Supports the coordination of regular staff meetings, staff trainings and staff retreats.
- In coordination with the Deputy Director, provides strategy and oversight for CASA’s tenant organizing work including conducting research, developing materials and resources for staff, trainings, etc.
- Provide support and supervision to interns.
- Supports and enhances a culture that respects and honors diversity, invests in professional development, and encourages self-care.
Leadership Development and Political Education
- Designs and coordinates regular political education and leadership development workshops for active members and provides training and one-on-one support for CASA members taking action in campaigns
- Recruit and support CASA leaders and emerging leaders in facilitating leadership development workshops
Campaign Support: Take an active role in one of CASA’s campaigns, including coordinating local campaign meetings, recruiting and developing campaign leaders to represent CASA in coalition spaces, holding space in coalitions for CASA members to participate actively and other duties.
General CASA Support: Attend and help coordinate monthly CASA meetings; keep accurate notes, maintain systems to document and track our work; Identify areas of growth and opportunity to develop and growth the team and work collaboratively with our team to grow the Coalition into the organization our members need it to be.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Ability to relate to persons of diverse backgrounds
- Bachelor's Degree or three to five years of progressive experience; Tenant organizing experience is a plus
- Strong track record of a commitment to social justice; demonstrated commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change; direct communication and conflict resolution, listen and motivate people to action from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to facilitate, train and develop leaders
- Excellent writing and public speaking skills
- Must be computer literate
- Must be able to work nights and weekends as necessary
- English/Spanish bilingual skills required
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be cleared and maintain clearance throughout duration of employment by NYC DOE fingerprinting.

POSICIÓN: Organizador Principal
Deberes y Responsabilidades Principales: Guiado por el Director de CASA y el Subdirector, el Organizador Principal es responsable de expandir el trabajo de CASA para combatir el desplazamiento y construir poder para los inquilinos en el suroeste del Bronx. Esto incluye supervisar, apoyar y capacitar al personal que dirige un programa de educación política para líderes y miembros, apoyar una de las campañas de CASA y apoyar la estrategia general para construir el trabajo organizativo.
Responsabilidades principales incluyen lo siguiente y están sujetas a cambios:

- Desarrollo de Liderazgo y Educación Política: Diseña y coordina talleres regulares de educación política y desarrollo de liderazgo para miembros activos y proporciona capacitación y apoyo individual para los miembros de CASA que participan en campañas. Recluta y apoya a líderes de CASA y líderes emergentes en la facilitación de talleres de desarrollo de liderazgo.
- Apoyo a la Campaña: Participa activamente en una de las campañas de CASA, incluyendo la coordinación de reuniones locales de campaña, el reclutamiento y desarrollo de líderes de campaña para representar a CASA en espacios de coalición, reservar espacios en coaliciones para que los miembros de CASA participen activamente y otras funciones.

CUALIFICACIONES Y EXPERIENCIA:
- Capacidad para relacionarse con personas de diversos orígenes.
- Título de Licenciatura o tres a cinco años de experiencia progresiva; experiencia en organización de inquilinos es una ventaja.
- Fuerte historial de compromiso con la justicia social; compromiso demostrado con el desarrollo de liderazgo, construcción comunitaria y organización comunitaria como estrategias para el cambio social; comunicación directa y resolución de conflictos, escuchar y motivar a personas de diversos orígenes para la acción.
