Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Rigger to join our team at our Norfolk, VA location. The Rigger will be responsible for safely and efficiently lifting, moving, and positioning heavy loads using appropriate rigging equipment and techniques. This position is vital in ensuring all rigging operations are carried out in compliance with safety standards and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Select and inspect rigging equipment, including slings, shackles, hoists, and other lifting gear, ensuring they are fit for specific tasks.
- Attach rigging to loads to be lifted, moved, or positioned, ensuring secure lifting procedures.
- Collaborate with crane operators and team members to coordinate safe and efficient lifting operations.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices during rigging activities.
- Assist in the preparation of load plans and verify the load’s stability.
- Conduct routine inspections of rigging equipment and report any damaged or defective equipment for replacement.
- Maintain rigging equipment in excellent working condition and ensure proper storage.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and other departments for seamless coordination of operations.
- Assist with unloading, loading, and securing materials, machinery, and vessels.
- Follow company policies, including safety, quality, and environmental standards, during all tasks.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a Rigger, preferably in shipyards, construction, or industrial settings.
- Strong knowledge of rigging terminology, equipment, and industry practices.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety protocols for rigging operations.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments and handle heavy loads.
- Strong team player with good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to read and interpret rigging plans and blueprints.
- Certification in rigging or crane operation is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy loads (50 lbs or more).
- Ability to work in various physical conditions, including standing for long periods and working at heights.
- Willingness to work in confined spaces and adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) for safety.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $20.00 - $29.00 per hour
