HIRING SALARY RANGE: $33,540 – $34,320


Hiring salary will be determined based on experience, equity, budget, and market considerations.

Minimum Education and Experience:


Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.


Preferred: Graduation from High School or possession of GED, and six months of institutional or commercial cleaning experience particularly in a university or medical setting.


Computer skills are required for corresponding through emails and reporting time worked.


This is a mandatory/essential position and is required to report to work in adverse weather conditions, during emergency closings and public health emergencies.


Description of Duties:


This is to fill one (1), 1st shift (7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) Housekeeper position. Position reports to the Housekeeping Supervisor. Duties include, but not limited to, cleaning and care of dormitories, offices and public areas, perform basic cleaning such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, disinfecting, sanitizing, vacuuming, stripping and waxing floors, etc., to keep working areas in a clean and orderly condition. Fill dispensers such as tissue and soap with the proper product and amount. Perform physically strenuous activities such as moving furniture and operating buffers, carpet machines, and other cleaning equipment, listen and respond to customer needs promptly and respectfully, and other duties as requested by the supervisor. Work is routine and repetitive in nature and may require strenuous physical exertion. Must be able to climb stairs and lift up to 50lbs.


Employees may be required to work some overtime and weekends due to special school events and programs. This is a mandatory/essential position and is required to report to work in adverse weather conditions, during emergency closings and public health emergencies.


Normal working hours are Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.


The essential duties include, but not limited to the following:


  • Cleaning and care of assigned areas

  • Dust and clean classrooms including furniture, chalk/white boards and woodwork

  • Empty trash receptacles and recycle bins

  • Clean windows, water fountains, elevator doors, and walls

  • Clean windows, water fountains, elevator doors and walls.

  • Clean offices and clinic including doors, windows, and blinds

  • Maintain and clean bathroom facilities including mirrors, replace tissue, soap, and paper towels.

  • Floor maintenance to include sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors. Strip and wax, tile floors, buff wood and tile, and shampoo carpet.

  • Strenuous activities include operating heavy equipment, moving furniture, and delivering large quantities of supplies.

  • Complete daily work orders as required.

  • Schedule work to minimize impact to the campus community.

  • Report all maintenance items to Supervisor

  • Provide a list of materials needed to keep in inventory for the housekeeping.

  • Complete the cleaning of all dorms, including moving furniture, cleaning windows, restrooms, showers, lounges, hallways, and windows.

  • Complete the cleaning of residence halls between summer workshops.

  • Be on call for after hours and weekend work as needed.

  • Assist with set-ups and special events.

  • Assist other shops as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned

Vacation: SHRA employees earn from 14 days to 26 days per year based on years of state service (part-time employees are pro-rated). Leave is earned monthly.

Health Insurance: Employee only coverage under the State Health Plan (PPO) is provided to employees that work 30 or more hours a week. The cost is determined by the type of coverage elected by the employee. Dependent coverage is available by payroll deduction.


Retirement: Required participation for all employees working 3/4 time or more. Option (1) Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS) requires 6% of gross salary. Employees are vested for retirement after 5 years. Option (2) The Optional Retirement Program (ORP) requires 6% of gross salary. Employees in ORP are vested after 5 years of participating in ORP. As a participant in either retirement program, you are automatically covered for short-term disability (eligible after 1 year of service/no cost), long term disability (eligible after 5 year of service/no cost). Death benefit of minimum $25,000/maximum $50,000 based on previous 12 month salary (eligible after 1 year of service/no cost).


Supplemental Retirement Plans: Supplemental retirement plans provide an additional opportunity to help you reach your retirement goals. Supplemental Plan offerings such as a 401(k), 403(b), or 457(b) on a Roth (after-tax) or pre-tax contributions.


Tuition Waiver: Three courses per academic year tuition free (at any of UNC 17 campuses that offer courses) for permanent full-time employees.


State Employees Credit Union: Membership welcomed. Contact the SECU Credit Union for information.


Community Service: 24 hours leave credited each calendar year (prorated for part-time) unless you choose the Mentoring/ tutoring option – 1 hour each week up to a max of 36 hours that schools are in session as documented by the elected board of the local education agency or the governing authority of any non-public school.


Facilities: Library & Gymnasium – other athletic facilities available at no cost to employees. Cafeteria on site.
