NURSING FACULTY

CLASSIFICATION: Faculty
DEPARTMENT: Nursing
REPORTS TO: Program Director/Dean of Instruction
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
FULL TIME/PART TIME: Full-Time, 10-month, tenure track
SHIFT: Day shift, Weekdays
LOCATION: Main Campus – Trenton, MO

Position Summary: Provide instruction for the PN and PN-to-ADN nursing programs. Primary duties consist of facilitating course instruction, lab-based learning, and clinical instruction. Additional duties may include advising, committee assignments, college events, and supervisory responsibilities, as assigned.

Essential Functions: Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to

· Meet and adhere to the guidelines established by the Missouri Nursing Practice Act for approved nursing programs.

· Teach theory-based courses while facilitating clinical instruction and lab-based learning activities, as assigned.

· Model effective oral and written communication that engages the students, provides clarity, and improves student learning.

· Advance student learning through exemplary instruction in accordance with best practices for online course design and through the established course syllabus.

· Utilize applied learning strategies to enrich student achievement, while maintaining a safe learning environment.

· Ensure the content and level of material included on exams corresponds to the course objectives.

· Provide timely and specific feedback to students for the purpose of learning, skill development and attainment.

· Demonstrate consistency and fairness when evaluating student course activities, exams, or skill-based learning.

· Coordinate clinical rotation schedules.

· Continuously improve instructional quality by utilizing effective instructional methodologies, while reviewing the effectiveness of instructional techniques and delivery methods to encourage student success (i.e. instructional technology, collaborative learning, service learning, and online education)

· Implement and use student learning assessments, while producing reports, as required by the College.

· Contribute to nursing program policy considerations while participating in the Systematic Evaluation Plan (SEP) and accreditation.

· Demonstrate commitment to the learning process by participating in the development and revision of the curriculum.

· Support student success and retention through scheduled office hours, timely communication, academic advisement, and other appropriate methods established by the College.

· Provide clinical instruction which may occur outside of College business hours, as needed.

· Maintain clinical and educational competencies in areas of instructional responsibilities.

· Maintain awareness of the program’s mission and belief statement to guide program improvement efforts.

· Participate in recruitment, retention, promotion and graduation of students.

· Establish annual objectives to include personal and professional growth plans.

· Adhere to College policies as outlined in the Faculty handbook and board policy.

· Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics including compliance to guidelines established and required of all regulatory entities.

· Develop and maintain working relationships with communities of interest.

· Attend institutional, departmental, and community meetings specific to the program.

· Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Masters in nursing preferred. Faculty hired without a Master’s in nursing are required to actively pursue their Master’s Degree in Nursing within three years of employment. Nursing credentials must be unencumbered with the Missouri State Board of Nursing.

Experience: Experience in nursing education preferred. Must have a minimum of two years of clinical experience.

Skills: Proficient in MS Office 10. Ability to build relationships and maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Proven organizational, analytical and time management skills displaying initiative when completing tasks. Must have the ability to work with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

Physical Demands: Moving about between buildings on the NCMC campus; reaching, pulling, and pushing when filing; able to do repetitive tasks; remain stationary at a desk for extended periods of time while typing and answering phones. Teach in a classroom setting for extended periods. Actively participate in 8-12 hour clinical shifts, assisting students with all aspects of client care. Must be able to travel independently.

Environmental Demands: Fluctuations while moving on tile and carpeted floors in a heated and air conditioned environment.
