What are the responsibilities and job description for the Terminal Operator position at Northville Industries?
Northville Industries, a petroleum storage and distribution company located on Long Island, NY is currently seeking a Terminal Operator for their terminals located in Setauket, Holtsville and Port Jefferson facilities.
The Terminal Operator is a union represented position and may be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
Responsibilities:
- Have a working knowledge of the LI Pipeline System, including, Port Jefferson, Setauket, and Holtsville facilities.
- Act as USCG authorized Person-In-Charge to offload petroleum products by ship and barge.
- Handle petroleum products through proper gauging and sampling techniques.
- Carry out orders for product transfers and control as set forth by Supervisor. This includes following procedures and processing transactions for bulk deliveries of product and additive by vessel, pipeline, and truck.
- Perform Lock Out Tag Out, Hot Work Permits and Line Locates safely and effectively. Ability to write and submit Work Plans to supervisor.
- Must have knowledge of USCG, PHMSA, DEP, and EPA and NY State requirements, including obtain required Operator Qualification (OQ) requirements.
- Perform operational duties and terminal maintenance as required, including completion of maintenance reports.
- Ensuring quality and quantity of all refined products being transferred within the Long Island Pipeline System.
- Performing environmental and regulatory checks.
- Complete mandated safety and regulatory training; safety and environmental alertness; promote a safe work environment by complying with and enforcing all procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Occasionally assuming Lead Terminal Operator responsibilities during absences and assisting with construction/maintenance projects.
Requirements:
- Associates degree or higher preferred.
- Experience in bulk petroleum industry preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and have legal authorization to work in the United States for any employer.
- Maintain a valid TWIC card.
- Maintain a valid and clean NYS Driver’s License.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which includes rotating 12 hour shifts, nights, weekends and overtime on an as needed basis.
- Ability to work independently a high percentage of time.
- Motivated team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills and a positive attitude.
- Experienced in Microsoft Office to include Excel and Word.
- Able and willing to climb various ladders and stairs to operate valves, gauge tanks, or perform maintenance on equipment are a part of this position. Ladders and stairs typically range from 5 to 50 feet in height.
- Able and willing to raise and transport articles weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Able and willing to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
- Must abide by PPE (personal protective equipment) requirements, which includes, flame retardant clothing, eye protection, ear protection, steel-toed boots, hard hat, etc.
