JOB SUMMARY

Indian Health Board is hiring full-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) who is motivated, outgoing and passionate to care for our patients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Primarily assists medical providers and psychiatric provider needs as they arise: perform functions related to "rooming" the patients for practitioner examinations, including vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, weight & height), medication reconciliation, allergies update, and documenting complaint into electronic medical record.
  • Assist the Registered Nurses and practitioners in ongoing health maintenance and health promotions. Identify common and recurring nursing needs of the patient.
  • Coordinates with interpreters for each patient visit as needed.
  • Implements interventions that are delegated, ordered, or prescribed by licensed health care provider such as perform electrocardiograms (EKGs), vision & hearing screenings, and dental varnishing with pediatrics.
  • Assists the medical providers with procedures, dressings, ace wraps, and splints. Ensure consent forms are complete prior to procedures.
  • Administer medications, injections and immunizations as prescribed by practitioner and or under the licensed health care provider or registered nurse per Indian Health Board standing orders protocol.
  • Provide health care information to patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions per licensed health care provider.
  • Observes, records and reports patient's condition and reaction to any drugs and treatments to licensed health care provider.
  • Assists with nurse triage phone line daily to assist in patients' needs, medication refills and clinic flow.
  • Maintain proper chart order; complete paperwork as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of and respect for American Indian cultures and other cultures served by IHB.
  • Ability to understand and meet the needs of the patient through respectful, courteous and caring interactions with patients, families and other health professionals.
  • Actively participates and works positively, flexibly and cooperatively in a team effort to accomplish the goals of the Indian Health Board of Minneapolis.
  • Ability to provide safe and effective nursing care delivery to patients under Minnesota Board of Nursing scope of Practice.
  • Manages time effectively and prioritizes task completion to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Child & Teen Checkups, Well-Child exams and immunizations schedule, not required. Indian Health Board will train staff on, vision and hearing screenings per Minnesota Department of Health requirements.

REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current LPN licensure in Minnesota.
  • Maintains continuing education contact hours per Minnesota Board of Nursing.
  • Current CPR certification required within 6 months of hire and maintain.
  • One-year full-time employment as a LPN preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of children up and in excess of 50 pounds. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity. The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations requiring a range of safety and other precautions: Bloodborne pathogens; Physical hazards, e. g. needle pricks, etc. Chemical Hazards, e. g. Germicide wipes and EMPOWER medical instruments cleaner.
