Duties Description
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS)* and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position:
Required experience: Four years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment.
Substitution: an associate degree in a related field can substitute for two years of specialized experience.
Applicants may be appointed to this position if currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title or a current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as a Service & Repair Mechanic Electronics and interested in reassignment.

- Perform preventive maintenance, installation, alteration, repair, troubleshooting of fire alarm systems, public address systems and electronic controls for building environmental systems.
- Use computer programs such as LATS, AIM, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New York State motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Asbestos certification required within 90 days of appointment as well as compliance with all related PESH/OSHA regulations.
- Utilities Management is a 24/7 operation; thus, night, weekend and holiday work is required based on shift assignment and operational need.

- There is no examination required for appointment to a NY HELPS position. Candidates hired via NY HELPS will be appointed on a permanent non-competitive basis and will begin a probationary period.
