The Human Resources Manager is a critical role that partners with the AWH Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania Cultivation and Operations teams as we sustainably scale our operations and develop the workforce. The HR Manager will collaborate with the Cultivation and Operations leadership team and associates to help build and drive the human resources and talent strategy. Our ideal candidate must have a history of leading and directing key aspects of people operations including deploying performance management processes; championing culture, engagement and diversity efforts; and developing routines across a highly dynamic and evolving footprint. Both strategic and hands-on, the HR Manager welcomes solving challenging problems, builds strong relationships and enjoys direct connection to the Cultivation and Operations team at the site. 

Location: The HR Manager will sit onsite M-F in our Lansing, Michigan Cultivation and Operations Facility with regular travel to Smithfield and Marichron.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partner with site leadership on all aspects of human resources functions at the location. 
  • Develop, recommend and implement HR policies and procedures assuring buy-in from site leadership. 
  • Coach and mentor staff at the location including all aspects of the employee lifecycle (hiring, managing performance, goal-setting, etc.) 
  • Partner with site leadership with regard to monitoring performance evaluation programs and assuring compensation is aligned with the AWH's pay practices and local market factors. 
  • Administer benefits administration and open enrollment annually. 
  • Responsible for ensuring payroll process procedures are adhered to. 
  • Establish and maintain department records, files, badging process, and reports, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed. 
  • Participate in onsite Cultivation and Operations Leadership staff meetings and HR required meetings as scheduled. 
  • Collaborate with site leadership to define the Cultivation and Operations organizations strategy and goals; identify ways to drive this strategy through talent management. 
  • Assist the site Leadership to plan and execute talent management strategy. 
  • Assist with driving performance, engagement, and development of our HR Cultivation and Operations site teams. 
  • Manage and monitor key performance indicators for the location (e.g. turnover) and recommend/drive programs to improve KPI results. 
  • Collaborate with HR peers to identify opportunities within our talent management programs/processes, partner with appropriate functional leaders across the HR team to address Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Learning and Development, Employee Relations, Communications. 
  • Model the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality and professionalism. 
  • Ensure effective delivery of programs/processes related to employee performance, engagement, and development in partnership with our Learning and Development team. 
  • New Hire Orientation: 
    • Develop and implement a structured new hire orientation program tailored to the cultivation facility's operations and compliance requirements. 
    • Conduct engaging onboarding sessions covering company policies, safety protocols, and job-specific training for cultivation staff. 
    • Coordinate with department managers to ensure seamless integration of new employees into their roles. 
    • Facilitate completion of all required new hire documentation, including I-9 verification, tax forms, and benefits enrollment. 
    • Provide an overview of workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and security measures specific to the cultivation environment. 
    • Introduce new hires to company culture, values, and career development opportunities within the organization. 
    • Monitor new employee progress and provide ongoing support to ensure successful adaptation to the work environment. 
    • Maintain accurate records of orientation sessions and employee compliance with required training modules. 
  • Partner with HR peers on employee relations to monitor employee concerns and address issues, conduct investigations and coach the team as needed. 
  • Oversee employee disciplinary meetings and terminations. 
  • Provide support and guidance to management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations. 
  • Partner with Environmental Health and Safety and Compliance to assure effectiveness of employee safety programs and protocols. 
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law. 
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related discipline. Associates degree may be considered with commensurate experience. Human Resources professional certification highly desired (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) 
  • 5 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, 3 years in manufacturing or operations environment preferred 
  • Experience leading and managing an HR team; possesses strong mentorship abilities 
  • Must operate at both strategic and tactical levels, appreciates sorting out the details and impact to teams 
  • Strong assessment skills (ability to learn and not assume) coupled with excellent judgement and perspective on Human Resources opportunities 
  • Ability to build and deliver an HR strategy using knowledge of the organization and associates 
  • Quick learner that has passion for innovative HR solutions and process improvement 
  • Adept at being a player/coach, jumping in and "doing" as well as coaching the team when needed 
  • Microsoft Suite; Intermediate to advanced Excel proficiency 
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to package ideas simply and persuasively 
  • Strong execution, interpersonal savvy, ability to build rapport and effectively interface and collaborate with employees at all levels of the organization 
  • Excellent consensus-building, negotiation and conflict resolution skills 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 

Physical Requirements

The position must occasionally lift, push, pull and /or move up to 25 pounds.  While performing the duties of this job, this position is occasionally required to sit and regularly use hand(s) to handle, grasp, feel, and or touch. This position is frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.  This position requires you to speak and listen regularly. 

Work Environment

This position performs duties in an office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
