SUMMARY:
OWL Central Operations Manager is responsible for leading business objectives throughout OWL’s operations. This involves focusing on Key Performance Indicators relating to on-time delivery, on-time reporting, and equipment. The Operations Manager should mentor and communicate with all levels of Operations team from Drivers to Assistant Manager. Associate should create and foster a collaborative work environment with Customers and Suppliers in support of the daily operations.
Essential Job Functions (other duties may be assigned)
- Respond to changes, analyzes impact on department(s) and organization
- Listed to feedback for departmental improvement
- Departmental controls and monitoring, manages departmental activities according to standards
- Enforces and demonstrates safe practice and procedures, ongoing daily monitoring of Safety and Quality.
- Countermeasures issues when identified
- Leads continuous improvement efforts and promotes a positive work environment
- Prepares, monitors, thoroughly investigates variances and reports for the budget(s)
- Ensures cost management and control, pursuing Cost Down/Cost Avoidance initiatives
- Practices efficiency and innovation
- Representative of the organization to Customers and employees during and after business hours
- Provide correct course of action for department, supporting company policy and business direction
- Communicate with all levels of the organization, customer, and outside agencies
- Process monitoring and resources requirements, while balancing the budget requirement with production requirements
- Development of department Business Plan strategies to meet corporate short-and long-term goals
- Develop quarterly review of business plan activities and results
- Coordinate activities between Divisions, customer, and support groups to meet plans
- Enhances KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) and metrics to monitor business to assure SQCDME targets are achieved
- Negotiations of yearly cost with Customer(s) and developing new business opportunities and objectives
- Development of labor, equipment, and operating requirements
- Ongoing review of business needs based on operations changes and customer’s business requirements
- Development of weekly and monthly presentations, as required, to executive staff regarding assigned departments
- Conduct customer visits/ meetings (Honda monthly, Suppliers quarterly)
- Ability to respond to issues at all hours, and the ability to work in excess of 40 hours a week and/or 8 hours in a day
- Performs functions as well as lead and mentor operations staff and drivers for transportation planning/implementation of processes for all Central Operations, which may be in multiple locations (Currently: 100 Associates and Management team members).
- Maintain a customer service focus, ensuring and protecting our customer’s best interest
- Collaborate with other Regional Operations, Equipment Group, and Administrative functions to ensure solid business processes and viability
- Work to meet customer’s expectations and fulfill their needs maintaining communication and good rapport

Minimum Requirements (education, experiences, skills, licenses and/or certifications)
- Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent Work Experience in related field: Minimum of 5 to 7 years Transportation management coupled with solid business acumen related to logistics and FMCA/DOT/HOS requirements
- Demonstrate positive labor relations skills with the ability to develop effective relationships
- Strong computer skills including but not limited to all Micro-soft Office programs (in particular Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), Adobe, HRIS (Ceridian/Dayforce), AS400, and transportation/fleet management systems (TMW & PeopleNet)
- Excellent communication, presentation, planning, and organization skills
- Excellent customer service skills, including dealing with difficult situations
- Creative analytical skills - Strong knowledge of problem solving and root cause analysis for total supply chain
- Leverage technology and know-how to create efficiencies and streamline focus on quality, service, and safety
- Exceptional negotiation skills
- Prior experience working with Japanese companies and knowledge of “Honda Philosophy” a plus
Work Conditions:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines and has minimal exposure to health or safety hazards.
