Description
Under immediate supervision, employees perform a wide variety of basic and routine assignments that assist in the normal functioning of governmental operation. Employees perform a variety of routine manual, clerical or recreational work in governmental agencies. This allows for the smooth flow of governmental operations when additional staffing is needed. Although the majority of participants work only during the summer season as needed and available, employees may also work during other seasons of the year. This job may function in any governmental jurisdiction and be supervised by regular governmental employees. There is no supervision of other employees exercised in this classification. Requirements
Position is Monday - Friday 8 : 00 am - 4 : 30 pm
The summer aides at Otisco Water Treatment Plant (WTP) will be required to complete manual labor, use small equipment and hand tools, use computers and tablets, and drive within a 30 mile radius of the Otisco WTP. Typical work includes :
- Conduct Annual Watershed Survey
includes door to door interviews and inspections of residential properties, perform dye testing of septic systems, data entry of survey results into Microsoft Excel and ARCGIS.
includes lawn care and general cleaning. Will require operating riding lawnmowers and using weed trimmers.
Valid driver license is required.
All seasonal employees are required to complete a drug and alcohol screening.
The Onondaga County Water Authority is a civil service agency under the jurisdiction of the Onondaga County Department of Personnel. Hiring is in accordance with Onondaga County and New York State civil service regulations. Many of the positions at OCWA are "competitive," which means that the applicant must have successfully completed a competitive examination given by the Onondaga County Department of Personnel and appear on an eligibility list derived from the examination. Notices of upcoming exams and eligibility requirements can be found on Onondaga County's web site or by contacting the Personnel Office directly. Other positions at OCWA are "non-competitive," which means that no examination is necessary. However, specific training and / or experience qualifications are required to be employed in these positions.
