Summary
Job Summary
Provides nursing and operational leadership while ensuring implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care in coordination with multidisciplinary teams and leadership. Functions as liaison between all staff, patients, and administration.
Job Responsibilities
- Provides leadership, orientation, training, coaching, and mentoring to staff.
- Responds to requests for assistance with patient care.
- Ensures staff compliance with department and organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
- Responds to complaints and addresses through established channels.
- Coordinates organizational resources to facilitate patient flow using defined surge activation and management processes when necessary.
- Provides administrative direction during disaster and coordinates departmental response according to hospital policy including opening command center when necessary.
- Creates and executes daily staffing plan for all in-patient nursing units by evaluating need for low census, reallocation of staff, and procurement of additional resources.
- Responds to and oversees management of all requests for Patient Emergency Response Teams (MRT, Code Blue, Code 250, Trauma 911) in accordance with hospital policy.
- Responds to and oversees management of all requests for Patient/Family/Visitor behavioral requests (Code Green and TRT)
- Verifies accuracy of Provisional Reports of death and acts as Deputy Registrar of Vital Statistics for OHRH
- Provides nightly after-hours coverage for the following departments: HIM, Materials Management, Dietary, Diabetes Educator (and weekends),Wound Care, Case Management, Marketing, Patient Experience (and weekends), and Vascular Access Team (only when unavailable).
- Facilitates provider notification in coordination with the Call Center and Medical Staff Office.
- Assists with Employee Relations investigations including staff UDS and BAT collections when necessary.
- Acts as UDS and BAT collector on behalf of OH Occupational Medicine at OHRH.
- Acts as expert resource for policy identification and interpretation.
- Interprets pain pumps and makes adjustments with provider order in accordance with hospital policy.
- Provides notary services related to hospital business (paternity affidavit, EMS DNR, Transfers to psychiatric facility, and advanced directives).
- Performs job duties in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing required upon hire
- A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience required
- RN - Licensed as a Registered Nurse. Eligible to practice nursing in the State of Kentucky required upon hire AND
- BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 45 days of employment in this position AND
- AVADE Workplace Violence Prevention Level III Provider required within 180 days of employment in this position
