What are the responsibilities and job description for the Culinary Arts Instructor PT position at Passaic County Community College?
We are seeking a Culinary Arts instructor to teach a variety of courses in Culinary Arts for the fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters. The instructor will provide culinary arts instruction so students can develop the skills needed to obtain employment in the food industry, and in-demand industry sector.
This is a part time hourly position
Examples of Duties:
- Teach assigned classes in accordance with the College's Academic calendar and approved syllabi.
- Meet class sessions as scheduled got the full scheduled time.
- Maintain and report accurate student grade and attendance records using approved procedures and systems.
- Reinforce marketability skills while instructing students what the industry requires of them. Assist with constructing a career portfolio, certificates and building their resume.
- Attend departmental orientation sessions held at the beginning of the semester.
- Utilize the appropriate technology, including the College's student learning platform, to fulfill teaching duties (Software training is provided)
- Maintain communication with the College, department, and students via the College's assigned email and LMS
- Assist and prepare students to enter the food service industry as a working professional chef's assistant doing prep work.
- Assist and prepare students to enter the restaurant " front of house (FOH) staff as part of the management team, host/hostess, shift supervisor, server, bartender, maître d"
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in culinary arts or Restaurant Management, or related field
- Knowledge of the restaurant/catering food service industry in order to teach Culinary Arts.
- Familiarity with teaching adult learners.
- College level teaching experience preferred but not required
- Minimum of 5 years' work experience as a chef or sous chef
- Experience teaching with a Learning Management System (LMS) such as Blackboard is preferred but not required (we will train you)
