Operations Manager for Motor Carrier Fleet & Brokerage Services

Job Description:

Are you a dynamic and experienced leader with a passion for optimizing logistics operations? Payne Logistics in Harrisonburg, Virginia, is seeking an operations manager to lead our team and ensure the smooth and efficient operation of our fleet motor carrier and freight brokerage services. You will play a crucial role in managing our carrier and brokerage operations, overseeing our logistics team, and collaborating with shipping companies and freight brokers to deliver top-notch services to our customers—reports directly to the COO of the company.

Responsibilities:

Leadership:

• Promote a culture of growth, development, and safety for our employees and customers.
• Provide consistent and fair leadership in both internal and external interactions.
• Offer feedback, training, and development opportunities to direct reports.
• Take a lead role in onboarding and continuous development of internal and external partners.
• Demonstrate a successful track record in managing operations of a freight brokerage.

Communication:

• Provide guidance to employees on how to handle challenging scenarios involving stakeholders.
• Supervise, coach, and train the freight brokerage office workforce.
• Ensure compliance with DOT & FMCSA laws, regulations, and requirements.

Strategy:

• Participate in pricing and process negotiations.
• Collaborate with the leadership team to resolve problems and improve processes.
• Set objectives for the office workforce, focusing on quality and efficiency.
• Strategically plan and manage logistics, transportation, and customer services for the brokerage operation.
• Direct, optimize, and coordinate the full order cycle.
• Maintain excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Monitor quality, quantity, delivery times, transport costs, and shipment efficiency.

Customer Service:

• Ensure effective service execution and accurate invoicing for services rendered.
• Mentor workforce employees to conduct quality business reviews.
• Conduct business reviews and support brokerage sales efforts.
• Identify and provide solutions for challenging customer scenarios.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, peers within the company, and carrier partners.

Operations:

• Manage operating expenses by navigating spot freight market climates.
• Monitor daily tasks, set priorities, and measure performance using operational and financial tools.
• Manage and revise best practices and standard operating procedures.
• Meet cost, productivity, accuracy, and timeliness targets.
• Ensure that the employee workforce has the necessary tools, time, and support to successfully meet customer requirements.

Required Qualifications:

• High school degree or GED Equivalency.
• Proven flexibility and adaptability to product and customer needs.
• Time management and organizational skills.
