General Description
The Instructional Technology Resource Teacher (ITRT) for the Petersburg City Public Schools (PCPS) leads the school division s effort to enhance academic achievement through the integration of technology into the PCPS instructional program in accordance with the PCPS Strategic Plan, the PCPS Corrective Action Plan and individual school improvement plans. The ITRT provides training and support to teachers in the effective use of computers and digital resources to enhance daily instruction. The ITRT promotes and expands awareness of the essential knowledge and skills necessary for students to responsibly access, manage, evaluate, and synthesize information in a manner that enables all students to master the curriculum and create projects and products using technology. The ITRT assists teachers in using technology and digital resources to accommodate the unique educational needs of students with disabilities and English language learners. This individual is regularly present in classrooms across the PCPS, modeling technology-enhanced instruction and collaboratively assisting teachers with creating and implementing lessons that integrate and align technology with the written, taught and tested curriculum specified in the Virginia Standards of Learning, Curriculum Frameworks, and local curricula and pacing guidelines.
Essential Job Functions
Works collaboratively with individual teachers or groups of teachers to ensure that lessons/instructional units are aligned to the Standards of Learning and Curriculum Frameworks and integrate the use of developmentally appropriate technologies and strategies.
Co-plans and/or co-teaches lessons with teachers to model and coach them in the integration of technology within the context of the classroom learning environment.
Promotes, demonstrates, trains and monitors the effective use of technology by teachers and students on a daily basis as part of the instructional program.
Recommends and assists teachers with effective selection and integration of technology that is developmentally appropriate and supports the needs of diverse learners, including adaptive and assistive technology.
Assists in curriculum development by recommending meaningful integration of technology into effective lessons in all content areas.
Disseminates information regarding technology resources, emerging technologies, best practices in using technology and digital resources, and professional development opportunities to staff.
Plans, facilitates, and/or presents technology and technology-related professional development workshops, in-services, and presentations for teachers and staff in one-on-one, small group, and large group settings.
Assesses proficiency levels of teacher and students in the use of technology to provide targeted, differentiated support to teachers.
Models effective instructional strategies using technology.
Researches use of newer technologies in instruction; participates in the review of technology tools, applications, software, and other digital resources to support and enhance instruction; makes recommendations to appropriate division and school personnel for the selection and purchase of technology tools and digital resources.
Identifies trends that incorporate technology, curriculum, and teaching strategies; creates resources for teachers and staff and shares new learning.
Supports the use of technology for formative and summative assessment; assists teachers and administrators with using technology resources to collect, analyze and interpret data to improve instruction and maximize student learning through intervention, remediation, and enrichment.
Serves as a member of the division technology committee; supports implementation of the division and state technology plan; serves as a strong advocate for technology integration and a resource to administrators and teachers on issues of technology in education.
Uses technology to communicate and collaborate, effectively modeling and teaching the legal and ethical use of technology to students, staff, parents, and others.
Maintains a professional log that documents daily activities, time allocation and work location.
Performs other related duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of current curriculum pedagogy, learning theory, methodology and practice, the Virginia Standards of Learning and Curriculum Frameworks, and recent research on integration of curriculum and technology.
Knowledge of key Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) documents and online resources for technology in education, including but not limited to Instructional Technology Resource Teacher--Guidelines for Teachers and Administrators, Administering Technology in Schools web page, the Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel, the Virginia Educational Technology Plan for Virginia, and the Digital Learning Integration Standards of Learning for Virginia Public Schools.
Extensive knowledge in the integration of technology in the public school setting, including adaptive and assistive technology.
Proven expertise in using technology to plan lessons, deliver instruction, assess and interpret student learning, provide interventions to close gaps in student learning, and differentiate the learning experience for a diverse student population.
Experience in development, facilitation and delivery of professional development programs.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate, support, monitor, and provide feedback to teachers on use of technology in aligned instruction.
Ability to coordinate, organize, schedule and monitor personal work assignments.
Ability to train and advise staff, to communicate effectively, and to demonstrate skills in decision-making, problem-solving, and building collaborative relationships.
Demonstrated ability to access and utilize a wide variety of media and technology resources to support job function and deliver classroom instruction.
Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community members.
Education, Training And Experience Requirement
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a minimum of a Bachelor s Degree.
Collegiate Professional License required; Post-graduate Professional License preferred (or eligibility for Virginia licensure is mandatory).
A minimum of three (3) years of successful full time teaching in core content area in a public school setting with experience in teaching technology or effective utilization of technology as a part of core instruction.
Previous teacher leadership and/or professional development experience in technology-related areas is preferred.
