Phoenix Paper Wickliffe LLC is searching for a qualified candidate to assume the role of Process Control Engineer.
Summary: Reporting directly to the Process Control Leader, the Process Control Engineer is a member of a team responsible for supporting and helping to maintain the organization’s DCS, PLC’s, and manufacturing system PC’s. This is a salaried, exempt position and, therefore, is considered “exempt” from overtime.
Key responsibilities of the Process Control Engineer position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide timely and effective process control engineering to all manufacturing operations for instrumentation and DCS control applications.
- Design and maintain process control applications (i.e. simple and complex control loops such as boiler feed water and drum level controls, lime kiln flows, and temperature controls in the power and recovery area.)
- Configuration and troubleshooting of simple and complex PLC and DCS systems in both the pulp mill and paper machine areas, as well as their auxiliary areas. (Woodyard, pulp dryer, water treatment, waste treatment, etc.)
- Support all process control computers, managing software upgrades for the DCS and PLC systems, providing repair of the computer hard drives, power supplies, monitors, memory, etc.
- Support capital projects from conception to startup by defining instrumentation and control requirements and scope of work, developing estimates and project schedules, and managing implementation.
- Manage changes to process control systems by keeping programs backed-up and updating documentation, schematics, and drawings; collaborate with the IT department to utilize a combination of the company servers and the Process Control system to ensure that data for systems are protected.
- Development of process control algorithms for chemical processes.
- Provide documentation of process control systems to assist mill Operators and E/I Technicians.
- Share in the responsibility of providing weekend and after-hour support for process control needs.
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
- B.S. in Engineering or Engineering Technology discipline.
- Strong commitment to safe work practices and procedures.
- Troubleshooting skills and knowledge of various electrical sensors, switches, controllers, instrumentation, transmitters, automated valves, calibrations, communications, etc.
- Programming experience with DeltaV, Provox or similar DCS systems including the ability to create, monitor, and modify DCS control logic. Programming experience with Allen Bradley or similar PLC systems.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, including periods of time in noisy, dusty, hot or cold environments.
- Ability to understand the plant process equipment, P&ID’s, chemical, and other manufacturing equipment. Should be able to learn and assume the role of process expert in multiple areas of the pulp and paper facility.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Team oriented and can effectively work with others to meet objectives and timelines.
