Job Summary
The Controller position is a hands-on, interactive position to ensure complete, accurate and timely financial reporting for the company. Pier Foundry’s controller is a key part of our team, providing expertise in GAAP standards and audit management. Some of the day-to-day responsibilities include inventory management, AP/AR transactions, sales and use tax, and account reconciliation. This position interacts with the CFO, COO and other management staff providing financial information and delivering thoughtful oversight to assist in improving business performance.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities/Accountabilities
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING:
Describe any physical and mental exertions including mobility, weightlifting, visual requirements, patient care handling, dexterity level of independent judgment and level of emotional stress such as dealing with emergencies.
This position is regularly required to sit or stand and move about the plant. Exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors. Involves on an infrequent basis bending and lifting. Essential Duties And Responsibilities/Accountabilities
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING:
- Responsible for the preparation and analysis of timely monthly & yearly financial statements and report.
- Execute daily accounting activities to include fixed assets, inventory, journal entries and accruals, error resolution, AP invoice expense account review, AP/AR duties as needed, and account reconciliation.
- Responsible for oversite of general ledger, inputting journal entries and maintaining support documentation for the month-end close process and year end audit.
- Verification and preparation of 1099's, 1094 and 1095C data and documents.
- Responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll. Prepare bi-weekly payroll expense report for general ledger entries and provide monthly reports as needed.
- Accurately identify sales tax nexus, maintain sales tax records by state and file in accordance with state requirements.
- Audit monthly invoice processing for appropriate sales and use tax. File use taxes with accurate support documentation.
- Collaborate with other managers to provide support for company initiatives and budgeting through financial and management information analysis, reports and recommendations.
- Responsible for the preparation of financial forecast and budget.
- Calculate and maintain hourly rates and standard costs for input into job cost and ERP. Verification of actual costs and computation of variances. Develop reporting metrics to discuss product margin. Assist in customer price increases.
- Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of company accounting policies, procedures and records to ensure current and future compliance with applicable local, state, federal government requirements and GAAP standards.
- Coordinate and manage audit activity, including banks, government, and insurance.
- Analyze cash flow, cost controls and expenses to guide financial decisions being made by the business. Analyze financial statements to pinpoint potential opportunities for improvement.
- Protect assets by developing, maintaining and promoting a strong internal control environment. Responsible for identifying possible weaknesses and implementing systems/processes to close any gaps in conjunction with the financial policies of the company.
- Motivates team members to produce quality work products within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
- Monitor, manage and ensure efficient processing of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
- Coach and develop accounting staff and assess performance to ensure a strong accounting function.
- Effectively participates in and facilitates group and team meetings.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting with a minimum of 5 years experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position. (required)
- CPA (preferred).
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
- Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
- Technical skills in account reconciliation, cost analysis and month-end close responsibilities.
- High level of discretion with confidential information (required).
- Experience in a privately held manufacturing environment. (preferred).
- Ability to effectively respond to employees at all organizational levels. Strong self-motivation, interpersonal, analytical and negotiation skills required.
- Ability to communicate openly and concisely with others. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees at all organizational levels.
- Strong analytical skills with ability to set priorities, complete work with minimal supervision, and meet deadlines.
- Must be well organized with extreme attention to detail.
- Advanced PC skills, particularly knowledge of MS Excel and financial software.
