ABS Global, a Genus Company, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a Genetic Data Analytic Intern to support our Product Development Team in animal breeding and quantitative genetics. The position is located in DeForest, Wisconsin. The intern has primary accountability for assisting with data-related activities, including data mining, pipeline development, and analysis, while gaining hands-on experience in genetic program development. The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of statistical tools, and a passion for genetic improvement.
In this position you will work 40 hours per week, typically during normal office hours, but times will range some on a day to day basis.
The hourly compensation range for this position is ($20 - $24) USD. The compensation provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Genus considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
- Use various statistical and analytic tools to complete data mining, data pipeline development, and data analysis.
- Conduct experiment design and investigate new models and methods.
- Generate information to inform genetic strategies, genetic program development, and custom genetic indices in support of advances within the ABS proprietary genetic program.

Basic Qualifications: (required)
- MS or PhD student in Animal Science, Plant Science, Quantitative Genetics, Statistics, Data Science, or related field, required
- Strong analytical skills, familiarity with statistical packages (R, Python, etc.), and experience with scripting or programming tools preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Available for 12 weeks during the summer.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with genetic/genomic data, bioinformatics, calculating estimated breeding values, and/or breeding index development.
- Direct agricultural experience (plant or animal).
- Strong interest in genetic data analysis, using data to develop on-farm genetic strategies, genetic program development, and custom genetic indices.
