ABS Global, a Genus Company, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a Beef Genetic Services Manager to lead the ABS Beef Genetic Services team and deliver improved genetics with greater demonstrated value to customers in the North America region through the NuEra Genetics program. The position is located in our DeForest, WI office and will consider remote work within the United States for the right candidate. The Beef Genetic Services Manager has primary accountability for developing and managing custom genetic programs, maintaining a robust data and product testing pipeline, providing technical genetic support to commercial partners and customers, and ensuring the continued genetic superiority of ABS beef products in the market.
- Lead the North America technical genetic beef program and a team of professionals to ensure customers in the region recognize and experience the impact from improved beef genetics.
- Develop a structured and consistent approach to delivering genetics services that is aligned with the needs of the commercial team.
- Maintain deep knowledge of NuEra products and commercial needs, and work with North America commercial director and team to set priorities for new program development.
- Ensure current program commitments are consistently delivered on time, while meeting and exceeding customer expectations.
- Lead efforts to:
- Develop and manage customer and partner data pipelines;
- Develop Indexes to address customer or market needs;
- Perform routine Index updates;
- Ensure robust product testing.
- Develop local trials to demonstrate product superiority in the region.
- Serve as the genetics subject expert for the commercial team and deliver genetic support to customers.
- Build external relationships with academic institutions, research institutes, customers and supply chain partners to maximize the value of the genetic improvement program.
- Actively engage with the beef and dairy industry in the region to demonstrate thought leadership in cattle genetic improvement.
- Develop and manage Genetic Services budget for the region.
- Exemplify the highest level of business and personal integrity at all times.
- Travel approximately 20%, both domestically and internationally.
- Advanced Degree (PhD) in Animal Sciences, Genetics, Animal Breeding or a related field.
- Strong background in statistical tools and analysis, including cattle genetic and genomic evaluations, and development of genetic evaluations for novel traits.
- Experience with selection index theory and index development.
- At least 5 years of post-doctorate experience in animal genetic improvement, with preference to experience in commercial or industry improvement programs.
- Preference for experience in at least one segment of the beef production chain.
- Proven success in effectively working across multiple business layers, cultures and geographies.
- Fluent in English
- Experience effectively leading a diverse team of technical professionals with a focus on coaching and development.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical information to a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders, from executives to farmers/producers.
- Experience managing budgets to maximize returns for a given set of inputs.
- Experience translating technical results into recommendations that maximize customer value from products.
- Strong attention to detail and a focus on execution.
