Planet Tool and Engineering is a highly diversified AS9100 certified machine shop serving many industries. Our other fabrication capabilities include welding, water jetting, and sheet metal forming. We have an in-house paint booth allowing us to apply liquid paint to both commercial goods and machined parts per aerospace and military specs. Our light assembly department specializes in smaller subassemblies, including the installation of military specific hardware. While our heavy assembly department specializes in building custom machinery or equipment and on-site maintenance and installations. Aside from all this, we also have an engineering department that allows us to provide custom design and build services for machines and equipment.

We have a day shift position available for a mechanical assembly technician in our heavy assembly department.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

This position involves working alone or with a group of employees building and installing custom designed machines and equipment. In this position the candidate will be required to assemble, inspect, adjust, and repair custom assemblies, machines, and equipment. This requires the candidate to read machine assembly specifications, such as charts, blueprints, schematic diagrams, and engineering specifications to determine requirements. We are looking for someone with a and good problem-solving skills. Although it is not necessary, the ideal person would have either a degree or background in a mechanical field. Such as industrial maintenance, automotive, or similar.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

· Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics.

· Assemble mechanical components using appropriate fastening methods

· Assemble and install pneumatic components to appropriate standards

· Assemble and install hydraulic components to appropriate standards

· Measure, examine, and inspect completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.

· Verify quality of assembly prior to shipment or handing to Quality Assurance.

· May be required to perform machine repairs and maintenance.

· May be required to perform building repairs and maintenance.

· Other responsibilities as required

SKILLS & CAPABILITIES

· Mechanical - Knowledge of mechanical designs and uses.

· Pneumatics - Ability to read pneumatic diagrams, select and assemble correct components

· Hydraulics - Ability to read hydraulic diagrams, select and assemble correct components.

· Technical - Must read and interpret Blueprints and work instructions

· Mathematical Reasoning - use basic math skills to solve problems

· Critical Thinking - Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

· Active Listening- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

· Complex Problem-Solving __ Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

· Basic electrical knowledge would be a plus.

The requirements listed above would be preferred, but we do offer OTJ training in some instances. The wage rate is based on experience and capabilities.
