The PBR Competition Department is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Competition Manager to lead key aspects of event operations and athlete relations in the dynamic world of Professional Bull Riding. This role is pivotal to the success of our events, ensuring seamless communication, precise record-keeping, and exceptional service to all stakeholders. Reporting to the Head of Competition, the Manager will oversee critical processes, contribute to strategic initiatives, and play a leadership role in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment within the Western Sports industry.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Stakeholder Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for Professional Bull Riders, Stock Contractors, and Independent Contractors, addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring superior support and communication.
- Rider Development & Recruitment: Partner with the Director of Rider Development to support PBR’s Rider Development Initiatives in identifying and recruiting top talent to deepen the PBR athlete pool.
- Event Operations Leadership:
- Manage event entry processes, athlete logistics, and stakeholder communications to ensure smooth event execution.
- Collaborate with the Livestock Director, event Secretaries and Promoters to ensure all needs are met.
- Oversee the verification of points, prize money, and event results. Work closely with Accounting and 3rd-party Event Promoters to ensure accurate event payoffs, settlements, and financial transactions.
- Special Events Leadership: Take a lead role in planning and executing marquee events, including Heroes & Legends, World Finals engagements, and other initiatives that drive growth and visibility for PBR.
- Administrative Oversight:
- Manage and enhance the Membership program and athlete databases.
- Monitor and report on rider and bull records, statistics, and key performance data.
- Supervise the execution and archiving of contracts, waivers, and agreements.
- Oversee the preparation and distribution of updates or announcements regarding events, rules, and operations.
- Event Sanctioning: Serve as a key member of the PBR Sanctioning Committee, collaborating with event promoters to ensure high standards in event planning and execution.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities to streamline workflows, improve administrative processes, and enhance operational efficiency within the department.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively engage a wide range of stakeholders.
- A collaborative and professional demeanor, maintaining a positive attitude in all situations.
Education & Formal Training:
- Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, Event Management, Communications, or a related field – preferred.
- Western Sports, Live Event, or Player Ops background is desired with a strong passion for Professional Bull Riding and an understanding of the sport.
- Portuguese is a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum four years of relative work experience, with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
Working Conditions:
- Normal office hours Monday-Friday.
- Overtime, weekends and travel may be required.
- Must be able work out of the PBR Offices.
