PPDG has an exciting opportunity for a Lactation Consultant at Eglin Air Force Base, near Fort Walton Beach, Florida. This contract position offers:
Full Time
- Monday-Friday - 9 hour days (with 1 hour lunch) between the hours of 6:30am-5:30pm
- No Weekends or On Call
Job Requirements:
The Lactation Consultant will have the following requirements:
- Qualifying Clinical License
- International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification
- 3 years of lactation experience (2 years inpatient)
- Basic Life Support
Job Duties:
Performs comprehensive lactation assessment of the mother and her infant within the hospital setting in accordance with the policy and guidelines of postpartum and newborn nursery care required for Government beneficiaries.
- Provides evidence-based information regarding use, during breastfeeding and human lactation, of medications (over-the-counter and prescription), alcohol, tobacco, and addictive drugs, and herbs or supplements, and their potential impact on milk production and child safety.
- Provides comprehensive care to the perinatal mother desiring to lactate.
- Assesses mothers and newborns for normal/abnormal anatomy to determine ability to breastfeed.
- Conducts bedside lactation rounds daily.
- Acts as an advocate for breastfeeding in the community, workplace, and within the health care professions.
- Recognize safety measures and quickly react in real world emergency and exercise situations.
- Participate in continuing professional development programs as appropriate.
- Documents all inpatient encounters in appropriate clinical databases.
- Consults with mothers having breastfeeding difficulties.
- Participates appropriately in communication and decision-making activities within Labor and Delivery.
- Appropriately refers breastfeeding mothers for breast pump rentals and supplies.
- Plans, teaches and conducts in-service education for Labor and Delivery nursing staff, residents and OB/GYN providers.
- Plans, organize and delivers lactation management services to all breastfeeding patients, both in-patient and out-patient.
- Facilitates monthly breast-feeding classes for beneficiary population.
- Reviews, updates and evaluates suitable educational materials to facilitate understanding
- Make referrals to Family Advocacy, New Parent Support Program, and other health care providers as needed.
