What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Counselor position at Prospect Ridge Academy?
- Utilize a character development program to provide students with a foundation from which to make positive choices.
- Provide emotional support and encourage students to find balance between academic, extra-curricular, and social expectations.
- Deliver counseling services through individual counseling, small group instruction and classroom character education lessons.
- Analyze data to develop new academic and emotional support systems as identified through needs assessments and MTSS process.
- Develop and maintain relationships with students and their families.
- New student/family on-boarding.
- Facilitate problem resolution for students through restorative justice.
- Collaborate routinely with staff and administration to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.
- Schedule students into their classes using Infinite Campus and manage all schedule change requests.
- Facilitate course selection process for students.
- Manage schedule changes for students.
- Follow policies established by the Prospect Ridge Academy Board of Directors, Adams 12 School District, and Colorado State mandated school guidelines (except where PRA has received waivers).
- Adhere to approved PRA communication pathways with all stakeholders.
- Actively pursue Professional Development opportunities.
- Participate in additional school development committees and/or extra-curricular activities to continue to strengthen our community.
- Oversee 504 caseload and participate in development and implementation of the accommodations related to the needs of the student.
- Introduce Individualized Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) for each 8th grade student.
- Maintain memberships in one or more School Counselor Organizations (i.e. CCHS/CR, ASCA).
- Sponsoring a Club or Coaching a Team (both may include a stipend)
- Serving on Committees or Task Forces (minimum once a month)
- Masters Degree in School Counseling or related field.
- Possess a valid Colorado Special Services Provider License, or the ability to obtain one.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, conflict management skills, and creative problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated experience in effectively solving challenging problems through a positive, collaborative approach.
- Commitment to Core Knowledge curriculum.
- Commitment to implementation of Character Education and Positive Behavior System.
- Ability to read, write and interpret various documents such as rules, policy and expectation, agreements, rubrics, scope and sequence documents, and assessment documents.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of staff, students, Board of Directors, Administrators and parents.
- Ability to understand and carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in a variety of situations.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate tasks.
- Strong interpersonal, and customer service skills while working with a diverse population.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and to be self-motivated.
- Ability and skill to use sound judgment as determined by the specific situation.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Provide backup assistance and coverage for other areas.
- Work is occasionally performed outside with possible exposure to extreme temperatures.
- Work hours may occasionally be extended.
