    Middle School Counselor Job Description
    The Middle School Counselor will promote and enhance the College Preparatory academic curriculum by supporting the learning process and advocating for the students. The High School counselor will contribute to, and manage, the School Counseling program following the guidelines and standards established by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National model.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Utilize a character development program to provide students with a foundation from which to make positive choices.
    • Provide emotional support and encourage students to find balance between academic, extra-curricular, and social expectations.
    • Deliver counseling services through individual counseling, small group instruction and classroom character education lessons.
    • Analyze data to develop new academic and emotional support systems as identified through needs assessments and MTSS process.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with students and their families.
    • New student/family on-boarding.
    • Facilitate problem resolution for students through restorative justice.
    • Collaborate routinely with staff and administration to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.
    • Schedule students into their classes using Infinite Campus and manage all schedule change requests.
    • Facilitate course selection process for students.
    • Manage schedule changes for students.
    • Follow policies established by the Prospect Ridge Academy Board of Directors, Adams 12 School District, and Colorado State mandated school guidelines (except where PRA has received waivers).
    • Adhere to approved PRA communication pathways with all stakeholders.
    • Actively pursue Professional Development opportunities.
    • Participate in additional school development committees and/or extra-curricular activities to continue to strengthen our community.
    • Oversee 504 caseload and participate in development and implementation of the accommodations related to the needs of the student.
    • Introduce Individualized Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) for each 8th grade student.
    • Maintain memberships in one or more School Counselor Organizations (i.e. CCHS/CR, ASCA).

    K-12 Responsibilities

    As full-time, salaried employees, you are expected to contribute to our organization's success outside of the school day. This may include:

    • Sponsoring a Club or Coaching a Team (both may include a stipend)
    • Serving on Committees or Task Forces (minimum once a month)

    Education and Related Work Experience

    • Masters Degree in School Counseling or related field.
    • Possess a valid Colorado Special Services Provider License, or the ability to obtain one.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, conflict management skills, and creative problem solving skills.
    • Demonstrated experience in effectively solving challenging problems through a positive, collaborative approach.
    • Commitment to Core Knowledge curriculum.
    • Commitment to implementation of Character Education and Positive Behavior System.

    Skills and Abilities

    • Ability to read, write and interpret various documents such as rules, policy and expectation, agreements, rubrics, scope and sequence documents, and assessment documents.
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups of staff, students, Board of Directors, Administrators and parents.
    • Ability to understand and carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form.
    • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in a variety of situations.
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate tasks.
    • Strong interpersonal, and customer service skills while working with a diverse population.
    • Ability to work with limited supervision and to be self-motivated.
    • Ability and skill to use sound judgment as determined by the specific situation.

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

    • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
    • Provide backup assistance and coverage for other areas.
    • Work is occasionally performed outside with possible exposure to extreme temperatures.
    • Work hours may occasionally be extended.
    • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.

    Reporting Relationship

    • This position reports to the K8 School Principal.
    • Direct Reports: None.

    Prospect Ridge Academy offers a total compensation package, for employees working > 0.75 FTE, including:

    • MEDICAL - There are three options for Medical coverage provided by United Healthcare.

    • FLEXIBLE SPENDING - There are two different options for flexible spending provided by Discovery Benefits.
    • LIFE/AD&D - You are provided 1x your annual salary (up to $100,000) as group term life insurance provided by Lincoln Financial Group.
    • STD/LTD - PRA pays the entire cost of short- and long-term disability benefits.
    • PERA - Administered by Colorado, PERA is a tax-deferred retirement account to which you contribute 11% of your monthly earnings. Additionally, PRA contributes 21.4% to the PERA pension trust fund on your behalf.
    • EAP - Employee Assistance Program is provided by Lincoln Financial.
    • PAL - Paid Annual Leave beginning immediately following the first day of work (FTE 1.0 = 10 days / 0.8 = 8 days/ 0.5 = 5 days etc.)
    • Paid Holidays that include - 11 paid Holidays for 10 month Employees (please refer to Employee Handbook for these 11 days) and 15 paid Holidays for 12 month Employees (please refer to Employee Handbook for these 15 days.

    For Employees working < 0.75 FTE, benefits will include:

    • PERA - Administered by Colorado, PERA is a tax-deferred retirement account to which you contribute 11% of your monthly earnings. Additionally, PRA contributes 21.4% to the PERA pension trust fund on your behalf.
    • Paid Holidays that include - 11 paid Holidays for 10 month Employees (please refer to Employee Handbook for these 11 days) and 15 paid Holidays for 12 month Employees (please refer to Employee Handbook for these 15 days.

    Starting Salary Range: $60,065 - $67,573
