Overview:
Provisions Group is seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to oversee and optimize their database systems. This part-time contractor role offers 10-20 hours per week of flexible work with the opportunity to collaborate closely with the IT and data teams. The ideal candidate will bring 10 years of DBA experience, a strong track record of performance tuning, database design, maintenance, and security.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and maintain database performance to ensure high availability and reliability.
- Design, implement, and optimize database structures to meet business requirements.
- Perform database tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Conduct regular maintenance, including backups, restores, and disaster recovery plans.
- Ensure database security, user access management, and data integrity.
- Collaborate with development teams to optimize SQL queries, schema changes, and ETL processes.
- Manage upgrades, patches, and migrations for on-premises and cloud-based databases.
- Document database architecture, procedures, and configurations.
- Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 10 years of experience as a Database Administrator.
- Expertise in SQL Server- would like Oracle, and/or PostgreSQL databases but not a must.
- Proficiency with cloud database platforms like Azure SQL Database, or Google Cloud SQL. with an emphasis on Azure
- Experience in database design, normalization, and performance tuning.
- Strong skills in query optimization, stored procedures, and indexing strategies.
- Familiarity with high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) setups.
- Proficient in automation tools such as PowerShell, Ansible, or database scripts.
- Experience with ETL tools like SSIS, Informatica, or Talend.
- Knowledge of data governance, compliance, and security protocols.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) is a plus.
- Certification in relevant technologies (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS Certified DBA, or Oracle Certified Professional).
- Previous experience in consulting or contract roles.
