EMERGENCY
POSITION TITLE: DIRECTOR OF CAREER EDUCATION
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Arkansas certification or qualifications for same in one of the following:
Vocational Administrator or Administrator
Minimum of two years educational, supervisory or managerial experience
REPORTS TO: Deputy Superintendent for Learning Services
JOB GOAL: To provide students enrolled in the career education program with education and training of sufficient excellence to enable them, upon graduation, to enter the job market with well-developed skills, varied intellectual interests, and sufficient understanding and curiosity to continue their growth and maturation as workers and as individuals.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Prepare the annual district plan for vocational, career, technical, and adult education.
2. Maintain public relations and evaluate program operations as required.
3. Screen applicants for teaching positions related to the above-mentioned subject areas and make recommendations to the principal and/or Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources.
4. Schedule workshops and direct professional development throughout the year.
5. Work closely with principals, as requested, to assist them in building-level program development and improvement.
6. Write program applications and administer the spending and accounting of these funds according to federal and state guidelines and regulations.
7. Formulate overall program standards and develop tentative timetables for implementation according to local education needs and priorities.
8. Approve in district travel expense for career and adult education personnel and maintain records for reimbursement purposes.
9. Grant approval for in district transfer of students to participate in career education programs and coordinate transportation for the same.
10. Serve on the district's WIA (Workforce Investment Act) committee.
11. Confer directly with students, teachers, patrons and state department personnel to expand and improve programs.
12. Work closely with the Director of Special Education to insure appropriate correlation and/or modification of programs.
13. Provide administrative supervision to personnel assigned to the Adult Education Center.
14. Assist teachers in planning the correct expenditure of their vocational instructional budget.
15. Plan for scheduled replacement of major items of career education equipment.
16. Analyze circumstances of equipment losses reported and recommend replacement procedures.
17. Assist teachers in the establishment and operation of required career education student organizations.
18. Assist teachers in the organization and conduct of required career education advisory committees.
19. Assist with the Career Academics Iniaitive.
20. Monitor and analyze submission and quality of required state career technical education reports.
21. Assist in the recommendation of textbooks, tests and other instructional materials.
22. Implement the district's desegregation plan in the Career and Adult Education Departments through monitoring to preclude discrimination based on race, gender, age or disability, and annually report the results of monitoring to the Assistant Superintendent for Learning Services.
23. Serve as the District Military Education Coordinator (DMEC).
24. Serve as the Community Service Coordinator.
25. Service as the Student Success Plan Coordinator.
25. Perform other related duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary Range: Teacher’s Salary Schedule x Index
Length of Contract: 244 days per contract year

Performance of this job will be evaluated according to provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
