An infection control nurse (ICN) prevents and manages the spread of infectious diseases in healthcare settings. Their responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing protocols: Create and implement infection control protocols and plans
- Monitoring compliance: Ensure that hygiene practices and infection control standards are being followed
- Educating staff and patients: Teach healthcare staff and patients about infection prevention measures
- Responding to outbreaks: Respond to potential threats and outbreaks
- Surveilling infections: Collect, analyze, and report on infections
- Providing consultation: Use clinical knowledge to consult with staff, patients, and families
- Liaising with others: Work with clinical teams and the Employee Health Nurse
- Preparing reports: Present annual reports to the IPC, Quality Assurance department, and other relevant parties
- Cooperating with health departments: Work with state and county health departments to report on communicable and infectious diseases
- Environmental rounding: Observe compliance with infection control and prevention in areas such as food preparation, laundry, housekeeping, and equipment cleaning
Must have a valid RN license and experience.
