Veterinary Assistant/Technician

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to veterinarians and veterinary technicians in delivering high-quality care to animals. Your responsibilities will include assisting with medical procedures, ensuring the comfort of pets, and maintaining a clean and organized environment within the clinic. This position is ideal for individuals who have a passion for animal care and a desire to work in a fast-paced veterinary setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians during examinations and medical procedures.
• Handle and restrain animals safely and effectively.
• Administer medications as directed by the veterinarian or technician.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the clinic, including kennels and examination rooms.
• Provide basic pet care, including feeding, bathing, and exercising animals.
• Monitor animal behavior and report any changes to the veterinary staff.
• Prepare animals for surgery, including catheterization when necessary.
• Assist with front desk duties such as scheduling appointments and managing client inquiries.
• Ensure that all aseptic techniques are followed during procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Skills

• Proficient in animal handling techniques to ensure safety for both pets and staff.
• Knowledge of aseptic techniques to maintain a sterile environment during medical procedures.
• Experience in kennel management, including cleaning and caring for boarding animals.
• Familiarity with front desk operations in a veterinary or similar setting.
• Strong understanding of pet care practices to provide optimal support to clients and their pets.
• Ability to administer medications accurately under supervision.
• Basic knowledge of animal physiology to assist in monitoring health conditions.
• Experience with animal catheterization is a plus, particularly for surgical preparations.
• Understanding of equine care is beneficial but not required.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
