Job Description: Director, Safety and Compliance
Primary Purpose Works with and through management, to ensure compliance with safety and environmental procedures and to assist in the achievement of profitability/productivity requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists, plans, and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT).
- Advises Executive Management on safety compliance concerns, preventative actions, and incentive opportunities. Oversee the development, evaluation and upgrading of safety programs.
- Plans and implements training for employees in work site safety practices.
- Oversees road tests and evaluations on prospective new hires and trainees
- Ensures the maintenance of safety files and training records for trainees
- Performs safety surveys and inspections, prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures when indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
- Assist, set up and conduct training for experienced new hires and trainees. Other duties may be assigned.
Skills/Knowledge Required
- Intermediate knowledge of Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
- Advanced knowledge of Analytical Tools (Smart Drive, TMW, Omnitracs) and other logistics software
- Advanced knowledge of federal and state safety laws, particularly FMCSR & OSHA standards.
- Ability to develop, coach, and mentor others including the ability to provide development experiences and network opportunities, advise, and teach to prepare others for effective job performance.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Training and development of Driver trainers
- Manages performance of Safety Specialist role
- Audits regulatory compliance at all company facilities.
