As an IT 101 Instructor, you bring your passion and skills to the classroom by teaching classes that survey the main areas of computer science, computer networking, and cybersecurity. In your classes, students will develop basic computer competency while being exposed to the different areas they will be able to pursue in our three programs. The topics you will teach may include file systems, command line interfaces, networking, cloud computing, hardware, data representation and organization, basic robotics, basic programming and problem solving, and introductory web development. You demonstrate a commitment to student success through equitable teaching and learning excellence, a vision for creating a progressive Information Technology program that supports industry needs; and an aptitude for building inclusive relationships with the community. This part-time position is responsible for instruction and related professional duties in our daytime and evening Information Technology classes. Teaching assignments may include web-enhanced, online, or hybrid courses.

  • Provide leadership in working to improve access and successful educational outcomes for diverse student populations, especially underrepresented and underserved groups.

  • Effectively teach the adopted curricula for Information Technology courses
  • Develop and update the curriculum as required by the College to respond to industry trends and to improve equitable student outcomes. 
  • Design inclusive instructional strategies, including classroom, small groups and individualized instruction, to reach all students, and select and evaluate the materials needed to implement these strategies.
  • Evaluate student progress towards attaining the learning outcomes, including thoughtfully designed individual assignments, projects, quizzes, and standardized tests. 
  • Maintain and submit student records, documentation, and program reports, including assessment reports. 
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff.
  • Demonstrated leadership or participation in institutional programs with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical, and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cloud Technologies, Cybersecurity or related major, Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of recent, successful work experience in the information technology field.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Knowledge of at least one scripting language, such as Java, HTML, Python, or C Sharp
  • Ability to design learning experiences that are interactive and respectful of cultural differences.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals whose first language is not English.
  • Ability to work effectively and engage with adult learners.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification within 90 days of initial employment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.   
  • Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.   
  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.  
  • Speaker of a language in addition to English is preferred– preference for top spoken languages in the RTC service area (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, Chinese).  
     
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: 
 
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification preferred.
  • CompTIA A and/or Security certification preferred.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The position is active in nature and requires standing, lecturing and demonstration of processes in a classroom environment. The job also requires some sedentary time when performing administrative program functions.
In the interest of providing a healthy, safe and secure educational and work environment, and in order to meet the requirements of federal legislation, it is the policy of Renton Technical College to maintain an alcohol and drug-free workplace for our employees and students.

This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis.  Lecture (theory) credits are compensated at $1,058 per credit, which includes scheduled class time and final exam days, in addition to a per credit stipend based on the high demand tier. All guided practice instructional credits for adjunct will be paid with an additional pay factor of 1.33. Future advancement in base salary, up to the current maximum of $1,592 per credit, is based upon a combination of years of service accrued at our college and professional development activity.
 
Degree Stipend:
Master’s or Doctorate degree stipends are paid on a prorated per credit rate.
