This two-year program equips students with comprehensive skills in sustainable agriculture, forestry, and environmental stewardship. Through intensive fieldwork, industry partnerships, and practical projects on our 30-acre campus, students develop expertise in: •Advanced Forestry Techniques: Implementing silviculture, ecological assessment, and strategic forest management •Professional Safety Protocols: Mastering workplace and equipment safety standards •Resource Management: Developing skills in harvesting, processing, and marketing natural resources •Plant Science: Analyzing complex plant biology and anatomical systems •Greenhouse Operations: Implementing professional crop cultivation and management strategies •Agricultural Entrepreneurship: Creating comprehensive business plans and marketing strategies Key Responsibilities The Horticulture and Natural Resources Instructor will: •Cultivate Student Leadership: Develop student ownership through strategic mentorship, emphasizing critical thinking and professional accountability •Drive Entrepreneurial Education: Transform classroom and greenhouse into dynamic learning laboratories that simulate real-world business environments •Expand Career Exploration: Provide comprehensive insights into Vermont's agricultural and environmental sectors •Lead Student Organizations: Direct Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter, supporting competitive and professional development opportunities •Enhance College and Career Readiness: Facilitate dual enrollment and industry certification pathways Professional Expectations •Develop and implement innovative, standards-aligned curriculum •Supervise complex, hands-on student projects •Integrate comprehensive safety protocols •Collaborate with industry partners to ensure experiential learning •Create an inclusive, supportive, and challenging educational environment Qualifications Essential Requirements: •Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent work experience in Horticulture, Environmental Science, Agriculture, or closely related field •Valid or interest in pursuing the Vermont CTE Agricultural and Natural Resources teaching license via coursework with Vermont State University •Demonstrated experience teaching or working with high school students •Substantial hands-on expertise in horticulture, forestry, or landscape management •Proven commitment to agricultural and environmental stewardship Preferred Qualifications: •Outdoor education experience •Industry-specific certifications (e.g., Game of Logging, OSHA safety credentials) •School Bus Endorsement (MUSAB) •Experience with student leadership organizations
