Job Summary
The Associate Director of Financial Planning and Business Operations plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of financial, business, and human resource operations within the Student Affairs division. This position partners closely with Associate Vice Presidents (AVPs), Executive Directors (EDs), and other divisional leaders to provide strategic financial analysis, budget management, and support for various funding sources, including operating accounts, gifts, endowments, capital projects, and special initiatives. The Associate Director contributes to workforce development and diversity efforts, collaborating with Human Resources and divisional leaders to align recruiting, hiring, and retention practices with the division's goals.
The Associate Director proactively identifies opportunities for process optimization, ensuring efficient business operations and compliance with university policies. Additionally, this role helps develop strategic solutions for unique operational challenges to support the mission of Student Affairs, which focuses on delivering a comprehensive portfolio of services and programs that enhance student engagement and success.
This position is a crucial partner to the Executive Director, supporting all fiscal and human resource matters and acting as a backup in their absence.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee the fiscal operations for the Student Affairs Portfolio Leaders they support, managing the operating account, capital funds, endowments, gifts, discretionary accounts, and other relevant accounts. Provide strategic planning, forecasting and analysis to ensure financial stability and alignment with divisional goals.
- Prepare and present complex financial analyses, multi-year budgets, and financial projections.
- Communicate financial information effectively to diverse stakeholders, translating strategic goals into actionable financial and operational plans.
- Collaborate with divisional leaders and Human Resources to support workforce development initiatives. This includes overseeing recruitment, hiring, onboarding, compensation strategies, workforce planning, and diversity and inclusion efforts.
- Serve as the backup for the Executive Director of Financial Planning and Business Operations or Associate Director on all fiscal and human resource matters ensuring continuity of operations in their absence.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices trends in higher education financial and business operation
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
Experience:
- Five to seven years' of progressively responsible experience in fiscal management, business operations and leadership, preferably in a higher education setting.
- Experience in budgeting, financial modeling, strategic planning, and business analysis is required.
- Proficiency in enterprise financial systems and advanced skills in Microsoft Office tools for data analysis.
Skills:
- Strong strategic thinking, interpersonal, written, oral communication, and presentation skills.
- Provide ability to communicate complex financial information to diverse audiences, including non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, demonstrating proactive leadership.
- Well-developed decision-making skills, balancing risk, and potential operational gains/efficiencies judiciously.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with high emotional intelligence and professionalism.

- Professional certification (CPA, CMA, or CIA)
- Prior experience working within a higher education institution.
- Familiarity with ASL and Deaf Culture or a willingness to learn.
