Job Summary

The Director reports to the Executive Director of the Office of External Affairs, and is responsible for growing Advancement-related activities of the Dyer Arts Center, and other areas within NTID where there is a goal to advance and build awareness of Deaf visual arts and culture (i.e. RIT ASL and Deaf Culture Community Center, NTID Performing Arts program, etc.). Specific responsibilities will include pursuing major- and leadership-level gifts from individuals, foundation and corporate entities, and working collaboratively with RIT/NTID Sponsored Research Services to pursue federal and state grant opportunities. The Director will also plan and execute Deaf visual arts and culture related outreach activities with the intent of engaging alumni, parents, deaf and hard-of-hearing middle and high school students, and those who assist in the education of those students. Finally, the Director will pursue strategic collaborations with arts and cultural organizations regionally and nationally with the goal of increasing NTID visibility and engaging new audiences.


The Director is responsible for developing the vision and strategic plan for the Dyer Arts Center such that it aligns with RIT/NTID strategic plans and goals. With support from the Executive Director of External Affairs, the Director will work to ensure the Dyer Arts Center is best used to engage audiences' external to the university, positioning the Dyer as an instrumental tool in prospective student engagement, fundraising target gift size of $100,000 , and generally growing visibility of RIT/NTID. The Director will lead efforts of the Dyer Arts Center Advisory Group, ensuring proper long-term storage/preservation plans for the Dyer collection, and that the Dyer Arts Center has the equipment and financial resources it needs to be a world-class venue. The Director will oversee work of the Dyer Arts Center's Collections Assistant and Assistant Director, whose efforts will be critical to the daily operations of the Dyer Arts Center.

Please note-this position requires a willingness to travel regionally.



Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for cultivating and soliciting support from individual, corporate and foundation donors, as well as pursuing grant opportunities through federal and state agencies. Fundraise target gift size of $100,000
  • Plan and execute Deaf-culture related outreach activities with the intent of engaging alumni, parents, deaf and hard-of-hearing middle and high school students, and those who assist in the education of those students.
  • Pursue strategic collaborations with arts and cultural organizations regionally and nationally with the goal of increasing NTID visibility and engaging new audiences
  • Develop the vision and strategic plan for the Dyer Arts Center, aligning it with RIT/NTID strategic plans and goals.
  • Work collaboratively with the Dyer Arts Center's Assistant Director and Collections Assistant to execute the vision and strategic plan.
  • Lead efforts of the Dyer Arts Center Advisory Group, ensuring proper long-term storage/preservation plans for the Dyer collection, and that the Dyer Arts Center has the equipment and financial resources it needs to be a world-class venue.

Required Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Museum Studies, Hospitality or Business Administration or a related field
  • 6 years' experience in private fundraising, arts organization management, higher education and/or hospitality management

Skills:

  • Strong community outreach experience
  • Direct experience with advisory board management
  • Strong experience with museum operations
  • Sophisticated communication skills, including both strong written and face-to-face communication
  • Grant writing and experience with corporate, foundation and individual fundraising, or related fundraising experience
  • Experience with Deaf Culture and ability to communicate in American Sign Language or willingness to learn
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Experience with Advance software or other CRM database systems



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Museum Studies, Hospitality or Business Administration or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in customer service
  • Experience with events management systems
  • High degree of energy and flexibility
  • Advanced ability/proficiency/fluency in American Sign Language communication skills



Department/College Description

The mission of the NTID Office of External Affairs is to provide institute leadership in high quality and coordinated engagement of alumni, parents, retirees, corporate partners, community organizations, partner not-for-profits and other organizations. Through its work, the office will increase philanthropic support of the institute; identify and grow revenue generating programs through contract work with corporations and other organizations, and build a network of partners to increase nationwide visibility and assist NTID is realizing its enrollment, employment, constituent engagement and research goals.


Specific areas of oversight include:

  • Advancement
  • Constituent Relations (alumni, parent and retiree relations)
  • Special Events (responsibility for major special events, speakers and conferences)
  • Arts & Athletics (Dyer Arts Center, Panara Theater operations, NTID Athlete Development Program, MorphEyes Studio)
  • Regional Representatives (Northeast, Southwest, Midwest, California)
  • RIT ASL and Deaf Studies Community Center



Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience:
