JOB DESCRIPTION: To motivate each student to develop competencies, knowledge, and skills in orally comprehending, speaking, reading and writing Spanish; to interpret to students the culture of the countries where Spanish is spoken to discover and develop special talents of pupils in Spanish communication.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
Must hold a Rhode Island Secondary All Grades World Language Certificate, Grades PK-12, in Spanish.
Experience in the teaching of Spanish and evidence of developing teaching strategies that will address the unique needs of each student;
Ability to know and utilize technology in the teaching and learning process;
Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, educational experience, and the interview process.
Successful completion of the Science of Reading Training
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaches knowledge and skills in Spanish to secondary students, utilizing the school department's curricula and other appropriate learning activities;
Provides the instruction and a learning environment that enables each student to master appropriate to age, grade level, and individual capacity;
Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district;
Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy;
Provides learning experiences that develop the basic communication skills, utilizing electronic equipment and technology, as appropriate;
Provides individual or small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects and experiments are being worked on simultaneously;
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during class sessions, laboratory sessions, and field trips;
Evaluates each student's progress in oral comprehension, speaking, reading and writing Spanish in relationship to the level being taught;
Recommends and requests books, instructional aids, science equipment, and supplies, and maintains inventory records as required;
Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities;
Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day;
Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs;
Demonstrates an understanding of standards-based education and how it is implemented in the classroom.
Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress;
Performs such other duties as assigned by the principal and/or designee at Rogers High School.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month position; appropriate salary/benefits in accordance with the Teachers’ Contract. Evaluation in accordance with the process as established by the Rhode Island Department of Education for certified educators.
