POSITION: Director, Academic Technology & Teaching Innovation Center
Description of Duties: Under general supervision of the VP for Academic Affairs, the Director, ATTIC leads a tech-centric workspace that plans and implements training and provides support for faculty to enhance instruction and assist with development of campus, hybrid, flex, and online classes using best practices; works closely with administration and faculty to maximize quality of instruction and works to keep the college in compliance with federal and state expectations for education. Collaborate with the VP of Academic Affairs and Deans to provide strategic leadership for online academic operations, faculty development, instructional design, and learning technologies. Oversight of the ATTIC, whose work lies at the intersection of technology and education; implementation of technology based solutions that enhance student learning and teaching strategies, including the LMS, multimedia software, and publisher integrations. Consult with college administration to ensure compliance with all federal and state laws/regulations and regional accreditation standards as they apply to online academics. Provide support to faculty through ongoing research on emerging technologies and practices that may be adapted to enhance higher education courses and programs. Administer academic technology equipment, complex educational software and programs and department specific software. Work with college administration to ensure ongoing evaluation and continuous improvement of the student academic experience. Oversight of initial distance education training and continuing education for faculty; facilitate faculty development workshops, webinars, online courses, small group training, etc. in the areas of instructional strategies and emerging technologies. Observe, assess, and analyze teaching practices to help determine different needs for faculty development programs, and ensure compliance with college policies. Collaborate with institutional stakeholders and external educational partners on issues of teaching and learning, instructional design, and faculty development. Support faculty with instructional design components including development of instructional strategies, course materials, assessment techniques, appropriate integration of instructional technologies and best practices. Assist in developing documentation, user guides, and tutorials for students and faculty to support instruction. Provide immediate assistance to students and faculty with technical challenges related to the learning management system and other academic technologies. Monitor intellectual property rights issues and recommend appropriate choices of media and methodology depending on where/how materials are to be used. Engage in professional development to stay abreast of current trends, learning theories, pedagogical, and technological developments. Serve on college committees as requested and as related to position. Demonstrate a strong commitment to customer service. Perform other duties as assigned. Twelve month professional position. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with adjustments as necessary to coordinate training and meetings with faculty.
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, or a related field. Experience: Work experience in higher education. Teaching experience or experience as an administrator of a learning management system or Instructional Designer. Experience providing academic support. Experience in leading or providing professional development workshops or technical training. Expertise in office productivity software. Possess effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; excellent teaching and decision-making skills; strong leadership skills; and ability to work under pressure. Knowledge of the issues and opportunities in online education and use of learning management systems. Ability to delegate and manage multiple projects. Ability to be self-directed, as well as collaborative.
Desired Qualifications: Doctorate in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, or a related field. Several years experience working in a tech-centric environment, especially in higher education with a course management system such as Canvas, BlackBoard, or D2L Brightspace. Experience using online course quality standards such as Quality Matters. Experience in a leadership position.
