SUMMARY:
The Buyer/Planner is responsible for inventory management to ensure sufficient supply of materials to support manufacturing and distribution, maintaining a high level of service while controlling excess stock. The position will interact with other departments to resolve issues and meet customer requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Partner with quality control team to resolve any issues related to product defects or discrepancies in delivery.
- Establish Critical Material Shortage list and escalate supply chain issues aligning with internal stakeholders.
- Determine appropriate supply, inventory, and budgeting of raw materials; develop plans to improve performance and COGS. Optimize inventory levels to minimize costs by managing inventory carrying costs, bulk purchase discounts, production planning, and lead times.
- Respond to production or distribution issues and adjust purchasing schedule as required. Communicate any major variations to affected parties.
- Identify and manage slow moving, expiry, or obsolete inventory. Develop and implement programs to reduce excess, expired & obsolete exposure.
- Coordinate with various departments (e.g., production, procurement, and logistics) to align production schedules with inventory needs, material availability, and workforce capacity.
- Adjust production plans as necessary to address issues such as machine breakdowns, supply delays, or unexpected demand changes.
- Create and manage purchase orders, ensuring the correct items and quantities are ordered in a timely manner.
- Partner closely with manufacturing, production, logistics, and sales teams to align purchasing and planning activities with company goals.
- Address and resolve any issues related to procurement, stockouts, late deliveries, or supplier performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or related discipline.
- 3 years relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience with emphasis on manufacturing in the medical/bio-tech industry, or related regulated industry.
- APICS certification, CPIM, CSCM or CPM, a plus
- Previous experience in purchasing, procurement, production planning, manufacturing or operations management.
- Knowledge of quality system regulations and ERP systems (Syteline preferred).
- Excellent knowledge of inventory management concepts, particularly the role of shelf life and controlled material in a cGMP environment.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with manufacturing, quality, sales, finance, and engineering departments.
- Prior contract/supplier relationship management.
- Extensive knowledge of MS Office with strong Excel skills.
- Establish and evaluate scheduling priorities for job orders.
- Assist with executing efficient schedules to drive the highest possible OTIF or OTD.
- Assist with performance within all planning activities and coordinate output with all production areas.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with suppliers and internal teams.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Prior contract/supplier relationship management.
