Sasha Bruce Youthwork is the leading provider of homeless youth services in the DC region. Founded in 1974, Sasha Bruce Youthwork (SBY) works to improve the lives of runaway, homeless, abused, and neglected youth and their families in the DC region. We achieve this by providing shelter, counseling, life skills training, and positive youth development activities to over 5,000 youth and their families each year. With 48 years of experience meeting the growing needs of DC’s youth and families with innovative programs, SBY is committed to ending youth homelessness.
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Prospect Research Intern to support our family foundation's development team. This role provides hands-on experience in donor prospecting, wealth screening, and philanthropic research while contributing to our foundation's mission. The intern will gain valuable exposure to family foundation operations and donor relationship management.
Key Responsibilities
The Prospect Research Intern will assist our development team by conducting comprehensive research on potential donors using various databases and public resources. This includes creating donor profiles, analyzing giving histories, and preparing research briefs. The intern will also support basic donor stewardship activities as needed.

Primary Functions
- Support the prospect research program by gathering and organizing donor information from multiple sources.
- Create basic donor profiles incorporating biographical information, business affiliations, and philanthropic history.
- Learn to navigate prospect research databases and public records to assess giving capacity.
- Prepare clear, organized research summaries for the development team. Assist in identifying and tracking prospective donors who align with our organization’s mission.
- Help maintain accurate donor records in our database.
- Support donor stewardship efforts by assisting with basic correspondence and record-keeping. Participate in team meetings to learn about donor strategy development.
- Bachelor's degree in progress, preferably in Business, Information Science, Communications, or related field
- Strong research and analytical abilities
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Interest in philanthropy and family foundations
- Previous research experience (academic or professional)
- Familiarity with database management
- Experience handling sensitive information
- Hands-on experience in professional prospect research
- Understanding of family foundation operations
- Exposure to donor relations and philanthropic giving
- Development of research and analytical skills
- Professional experience in the philanthropic sector
