The Program Manager, Safety & Risk Management, leads Safety and Risk Management programs, projects, and functions, with an emphasis on proactively identifying, assessing, and mitigating potential risks within the organization and ensuring proactive risk management practices are implemented. Additionally, the Program Manager leads response to incidents and claims that arise in their area of primary accountability.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate SMM’s Occupational Safety and Risk Management programs through independent judgment on key management policies related to safety.
Plan and implement programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, injury prevention, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other safety related items.
Lead the process for enterprise Safety policy development and management. Develop guidelines and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of visitors, employees, volunteers, and third-parties.
Manage all OSHA related issues such as inspections, yearly reports, mandated postings, citations, hearings, etc. Performs safety audits to ensure compliance with all OSHA, State, Local and enterprise safety rules and regulations.
Develop and lead management and employee safety orientation training / retraining programs.
Represent management on the Labor Management Committee and partner with management on a confidential basis to provide critical insights and recommendations to management on labor relations strategy.
Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards related to safety and risk management.
Continuously tracking and monitoring risks, updating risk assessments as needed, and reporting risk information to relevant stakeholders.
Escalate issues to proper functional partner(s) (e.g. Human Resources, Facilities, etc.) and partner on proactive management.
Lead management & administration of the Worker’s Compensation program and claim lifecycle.
Partner with the Senior Director, Human Resources, to manage litigated claims.
Lead safety and accident / injury reporting (internal / external; mandatory / discretionary)
Independently, or in partnership with appropriate stakeholder(s) (dependent upon subject matter), performs investigations to determine root cause(s) of adverse incidents, identify preventive / remedial measures, prepares indicated reports to enable SMM to productively address internal process / procedure / policy any derivative claims.
Administration of enterprise Adverse Weather notification protocol and Emergency Action Plan.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Competencies
Education / Job Knowledge :
Minimum HS degree / GED, BA / BS degree preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of Worker’s Compensation laws and procedures and their application to claim management
Occupational Safety regulatory knowledge and ability to translate same to risk and safety policies, procedures, and guidelines
Project management skills
Combination of education and experience to demonstrate facility with essential functions of the position is required
Experience :
2 years of experience leading Occupational Health and Safety and / or Risk Management programs
3 years managing full-cycle Worker’s Compensation claims
3 years experience investigating incidents (accidents, injuries, etc.) and composing related reports
Experience developing policy, procedures, and guidelines
Experience creating and delivering training
Demonstrated strategic, analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to flex communication style (written and verbal) to varying audiences
Ability to identify and resolve a variety of complex issues across areas of accountability
Certifications (Preferred) :
Associate Safety Professional (“ASP”) / Certified Safety Professional (“CSP”)
Worker’s Compensation Professional (“WCP”)
Work Environment :
Hybrid work environment, core onsite days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Onsite work may be required on Mondays and Fridays as business needs demand.
Starting Compensation is $70k-81k / year
Salary : $70,000 - $81,000
